KARP "Kill All Redneck Pricks" DVD 16€
(Molasses Manifesto)
"Kill All Redneck Pricks: A Documentary Film about a Band Called KARP" is the story of three friends overcoming odds through rock'n'roll music. Set in the Pacific Northwest against the backdrop of the Olympia, WA post punk and riot girl movements of the early 90's, the film details the joys and tragedies of a band called KARP as each band member's life serves as a lightning bolt to a separate destiny. "Kill All Redneck Pricks" is the biography of a friendship… because ultimately the sound a band makes is the sound of their friendship. Film includes KARP, The Whip, Big Business, Melvins, Joe Preston, Calvin Johnson, Kathleen Hanna, and original music by Kimya Dawson. DVD extras include complete 3 camera shoot of KARP's appearance at the Yo Yo A Go Go Festival 1994 and 1997.

CLOCKCLEANER "Nevermind" LP 15€
(Fan Death Records)
"Nevermind" is album number two for Clockcleaner. Heads are turning, and ears are burning. "Nevermind’s" sonic assault is a veritable landscape of Panzer tanks frolicking across the Polish countryside of political correctness and all things hallowed by delicate journalists and limp-wristed soundmen. Like the best of Midwest noise-rock from the era prior to the current one in which most bands wear eyeliner, Clockcleaner hammers on the clanging, sheet-metalled riffing, thudding out the low end with concussive drum n’ bass. At it’s most polite and generally appealing, this is as good as anything the Chicago or Minneapolis cranked out in the late eighties and early nineties. At it’s nastiest, this is Flipper or The Dwarves tossing unopened beer cans at your girlfriend’s unsuspecting face from the stage while feedback howls a few feet away. It’s how rock and roll should be. Nothing like a volley of bottles, cans, lit fireworks, and other projectiles to get the party started. So here’s to Clockcleaner keeping that spirit alive and well in the 21st century.

THE CUTTHROATS 9 "You Should Be Dead" 7"
(Reptilian Records)
The Cutthroats 9 was a band formed by Chris Spencer of Unsane and Celan, when he moved to California after Unsane went on hiatus in 2000. This 7" was the band's first recording, released in 1999. Every bit of Unsane's vein-bulging violence is present in The Cutthroats 9 albeit with a slightly groovier approach. Pay no mind to this release being over 10 years old, it still beats the shit out of anything in your record collection. Black vinyl.

THE CUTTHROATS 9 "Anger Management" 10" 10€
(Reptilian Records)
"Anger Management" was the final recording by The Cutthroats 9 after Dave Curran left the band and before Chris Spencer joined him in New York to re-activate Unsane. The therapy suggested by the title of the record can hardly be heard taking effect as these six songs beat you up and leave you bleeding dry. And you can't help wanting more. Limited edition of 500 copies on blue vinyl and silk screened sleeve.

GÜNNA VAHM / FIGHT AMPUTATION Split 7"
(Reptilian Records)
Scarcely available split release from two brilliant U.S. noise rock bands, this being one of the first releases by both. Günna Vahm takes side A with some awesome noise rock: yelled vocals, tons of dynamic shifts between lightly distorted riffing and quirky abrasive textures, a little melody and some more memorable playing, etc. It's really quite original, maybe coming off like Fugazi meets Craw, but chunkier? "Slouch, Pointed Toes" has spoken vocals and is driven by a more rocked out rhythm section, standing out from the other song offered. Also present is an excellent recording with an even mix and clear tones, with the perfect amount of dry warmth and bite. It's not too intricate or overly rhythmic, they're just great writers. Fight Amputation is up next with some heavy and subtly dissonant hardcore/punk. There's a good amount of speed and screaming vocals, with an underlying His Hero is Gone sort of thing going on, but nothing too blatant (especially not the vocals). Generally the tracks are to the point without being stale, and they spice up the writing with lots of quick changes and little discordant runs. "Emergency Rations" has an almost doomy break with the rhythm section and feedback, lasting a little longer than anticipated. They've got a killer sound as well. It's heavy with strong clarity and a cohesive mix. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve.

THE CUTTHROATS 9 "s/t" CD 10€
(Reptilian Records)
With his previous outfit Unsane, Chris Spencer (guitar/vocals) assisted in pioneering a more aggressive, less studied direction for noise rock, and for that matter, hardcore and extreme music in general. While developing the blueprint for noise-metal bands to follow, Spencer cut a remarkable, hearing damaged swath through underground music, inspiring a devoted, cult-like following around the globe for a decade. As a power trio, Unsane relied upon a hammering, power-press rhythm section, Spencer's searing six string howl, and distorted vocals that resembled nothing if not the sound of a man trapped in the New York Subway system. And as the principle songwriter, vocalist, and founder of Unsane, Spencer has dropped precisely that amount of weaponry on the table with The Cutthroats 9, with plenty extra in tow. In fact, this trio of dangerous men ratchets up Unsane's intensity level, harnessing a dynamo of fear, rage, chaos, and vengeance, with each track barely escaping derailment and destroyed equipment. Live, The Cutthroats 9 was another story, where smashed drums, trashed guitars, and a general splintering of gear was a nightly experience. This is Reptilian Records' re-release from 2002 of the original Man's Ruin Records release from 2000.

BUZZOV·EN "Useless / Never Again" 7"
(Reptilian Records)
In 1996, Buzzov·en released its first real single since previous 7"s were EPs. The band was no more in the wake of its Roadrunner contract and things were beginning to turn bad. But this single is great, with "Never Again" being their most Black Sabbath track to date and "Useless" a sort of sludgy Stooges song that is now a sort of classic. There was a new version of this song on the "At a Loss" LP released 2 years later. Black vinyl.

CD:

-(16)- "Curves that Kick" CD 10€
(Relapse Records)
"Curves that Kick", the long out-of-print debut album from SoCal quartet -(16)-, threw the doors open to a new, post-Helmet/AmRep sound of discordance and discontent. Originally released as a 10" on Pushead's Bacteria Sour label in 1993, the album exposed the nascent beginnings of the soon-to-be infamous quartet. As "Curves that Kick" proved then and underscores now in its remixed and remastered form, -(16)- is its own unique, belligerent human animal.

-(16)- "Drop Out" CD 10€
(Relapse Records)
The beastly, throbbing riffs and tortured screams of -(16)-'s now-legendary "Drop Out" album sent shockwaves through the international music scene upon its 1996 release. It's obvious why over a decade later; the band made visceral anguish, angst, and disillusionment sound downright anthemic. -(16)- put an ugly, angry face on disenfranchised youth and "Drop Out" became a touchstone and soundtrack for the next generation of heavy rock trail blazers and trendsetters.
http://www.myspace.com/16

BODYCHOKE "Cold River Songs" CD 10€
(Relapse Records)
Formed by members of Sutcliffe Jugend and Whitehouse, Bodychoke was a noisy rock anomaly as powerful and provocative as its name would suggest. The bands long out-of-print final album, the bleak and depressing creative apex known as "Cold River Songs", has been given the deluxe reissue treatment; the album is remastered to include 3 bonus tracks and repackaged to include first-ever printing of the bands incendiary lyrics. Criminally underrated and underexposed, "Cold River Songs" is intense and ground-breaking!

BUZZOV·EN "Violence from the Vault" MCD
(Relapse Records)
"Violence from the Vault" were the first recordings to follow the bands venerable "Sore" album (1994), and would prove to be the last with that lineup. These tracks, unearthed for the first time since their 1995 recording, are a testament to one of the most unique and overlooked bands from the US underground.
http://www.myspace.com/buzzovenx

JUCIFER "L'Autrichienne" CD 10€
(Relapse Records)
The fourth album from this Southern noise punk riff monster duo is a raw sonic palette varying in tempo and volume that never lets up! Oddly enough, this intense release centers around French noblewoman Marie Antoinette, and is extremely well-thought out and deep. This is definitely the most ambitious Jucifer record to date. Amber Valentine's distinctive voice varies from harsh, banshee screams to softly moaned intonations against a raw palette that varies in terms of tempo and volume but never wavers in emotive intensity. Jucifer reinvents metallic shoegazing on "L'Autrichienne".

TODAY IS THE DAY "Temple of the Morning Star" CD 10€
(Relapse Records)
"Temple of the Morning Star" was the most widely circulated Today is the Day album, and over the span of a year it allowed the band to grow from an infamous fringe group to the wildly influential band of today. "Temple of the Morning Star" is an undisputed classic.
http://www.myspace.com/todayistheday

UNSANE "Occupational Hazard" CD 10€
(Relapse Records)
New York's much feared noise rock trio deliver their heaviest, most punishing record to date! Totally bludgeoning rock with inescapable grooves!
http://www.myspace.com/unsane

UNSANE "Blood Run" CD 10€
(Relapse Records)
NYC noise rock kingpins Unsane bombard the listener with punishing, abrasive music delivered with the subtlety of a head-on car crash. "Blood Run" administers immeasurable amounts of the band's unequalled combination of blood, guts and violence as vocalist/guitarist Chris Spencer's scraping guitar work and vocal angst is cemented by a pounding rhythm section and domineering air of volatile aggressiveness. "Blood Run" is a sordid soundtrack for the musical masochist.

Brand new experimental noise rock band from Tampere, Finland. DEATH TRIP "Pain is Pain - The Complete Death Trip 1988-1994" CD 12€
(Ektro Records/Karkia Mistika Records)
At the twilight of the 1980s, several members of Terveet Kädet—Finland's first and fieriest hardcore-punk export—decided to get back to basics. With their mother ship exploring increasingly metallic terrain, the guys invented Death Trip as a decelerated means of unleashing their collective id. Stripping simplistic but hypnotic riffs from crude noise rock and garage grime, the band tapped into a dank, primal, and trashy force over the course of three seven-inch singles released by the hallowed indie Bad Vugum Records. The quartet's methodology is rather straightforward: flat, sustained ugliness with zero crescendos, resolutions or payoff. But Death Trip isn't about relentless evil and angst. As a useful reminder that there's a point to this punishment, the antagonistic yet rollicking spirit that fueled The Cramps and The Stooges often surfaces from the ritualistic murk. A splatter-flick sense of humor pervades Veli-Matti "Läjä" Äijälä's gonzo howls, muffled grunts, and distant cries, and performances featuring bondage masks, meat cleavers, and flasher's raincoats further blur the line between creepiness and kitsch. Compiling the above-mentioned songs with a wad of rare concert and demo material, "Pain is Pain" thoughtfully chronicles Death Trip’s shadowy career. If you dig the antisocial numbness of Sweden's Brainbombs or the stranger side of America's Amphetamine Reptile label, you'll definitely want to join Äijälä and friends on their historic journey down Route 666. Youngsters weaned on crust, doom, and stoner sounds will also hail the hammering of this final nail in the ensemble’s coffin. In addition, Death Trip’s minimalist repetition and ghoulish iconography have substantially impacted the Nordic underground, most notably influencing the music and imagery of the world-famous and mesmerizing Circle.

THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT / HALLOWED BUTCHERY "Songs of Self Reliance and Solitude" Split 10" 10€
(Vendetta Records)
The USA-based progressive doom soloist Hallowed Butchery teams up with the French funeral doom soloist The Austrasian Goat for a monumental collaborative split 10" based upon the moral stance of self-reliance, popularized and preached by the Transcendentalist movement of the 19th century. In a world of consumerism, conformity, religious brainwashing, and political bullshit, these two musical geniuses refuse to merely follow the pack. This is reflected in both their lyrical content, and in their approach to their music, which is performed in solitude, and which often defies categorization. The Austrasian Goat begins the split with two songs of dark, minimalistic, funeral doom reminiscent of Ahab, Celestiial, and Nortt, but with an approach all his own. On the second of the two dirges, Ryan Fairfield of Hallowed Butchery makes a guest appearance. Side two features one epic song from Hallowed Butchery. His song is different from anything he has done in the past – reminiscent of Hawkwind-on-a-bad-acid-trip with Black Sabbath chugging cough syrup, while My Bloody Valentine snorts a mishmash of pills. The song features guest appearances from Julien Louvet of The Austrasian Goat and Brad Bolduc of Terrible Old Man. In a nutshell, "Songs of Self-Reliance and Solitude" is music for the forward-thinking, the individualist, the anarchist, the artist, and the metal-head in us all. Black vinyl in silk screened silver/black sleeve. Limited edition of 400 copies.

DRAINLAND / TRENCHES Split LP 12€
(Vendetta Records/De Graanrepubliek/Headwrecker)
Are you ready to take a trip to a land where apocalyptic blues rule and dirge blows in the wind? Well, all you have to do is plug yourself into the new Drainland and Trenches split. Once you press play, both sides will lead you into a cavern of down-tuned weirdness, where bass lines smoke weed that’s been soaked in whiskey. Drainland wrecks shop like only they could, with crust-laden sludge that is tweaked out with all sorts of other awesome influences. The Trenches side reminds you of driving through the desert expanse, on your way to a ghost town oasis. Black vinyl.

MULTICULT "s/t" LP 13€
(Multicult)
Strong debut album by the Baltimore trio Multicult. Dirty, rhythmically heavy noise rock having that gritty garage-y vibe all throughout, but also maintaining a clear emphasis on actual song structures, reminiscent of the sound once so prominently connected with the names Amphetamine Reptile and Touch & Go. Multicult has been compared to such bands as Big Black, early Unsane, Brainbombs, Birthday Party and Clockcleaner, so if any of those names ring a bell, check out Multicult. Black vinyl. Limited edition of 300 copies.

MULTICULT "Open Fire" 7"
(Amplified Noise Recordings)
This here two song single follows the self-titled twelve inch that the band put out earlier this year. If you were to search around and make an assumption based on the very little information you can find about the band, then you’d think they were merely focused on some blunt forceful sounding noise rock. Granted, the band is in fact noisy, but their music is greatly beat/rhythm driven. Both sides of this single combine some razor sharp guitar plucking with very strong rhythms that has a bit of a Skin Graft vibe to it, albeit not as damaged or arty. It’s a bit of a meeting between a lot of the noise rock that’s been heard out of Baltimore lately and the workman/technical side of things of the past Midwest. Guest appearances by Rebecca/Lady Piss and Jake/Triac. Black vinyl. Includes a digital download coupon for the two tracks included on this 7" as well as two bonus tracks.

CACAW "s/t" LP 15€
(Permanent Records)
Back in early 2009, Permanent Records issued Cacaw's debut "Get a Brain" EP and quickly sold through the first pressing of 300 copies. There was an immediate repress, which has also since sold out. Here we are just over a year and a half later, presenting Cacaw's follow-up eponymous LP which has been pressed in a limited first edition of 500 copies. If you dug the brutal noise rock sounds crammed onto the one side of their debut EP, you're gonna flip over their brand new LP. It's heavier, louder, and longer. That's right, two full sides of Cacaw's signature noise rock brutality. A big selling point for their first release was the fact that two of the Coughs are in Cacaw, however, Cacaw have since garnered their own audience and the Coughs reference seems barely worth mentioning any longer. For those of you who haven't heard them yet, Cacaw takes the Coughs sound and distills it down to a more minimal yet no less intense brand of really fucking groovy noise rock. Cacaw have quickly become one of Chicago’s most popular underground rock bands. Fans who have witnessed their live shows always seem to leave begging for more. Cacaw’s second record, just like their first release, is a doozie both sonically and visually. The grooves on the marbled colored vinyl contain some incredibly intense jams. The card stock tri-color jacket has also been diligently hand screen printed by band members. This release is more than a record its a piece of art.

DIET PILLS "s/t" 7"
(Force Fed Records)
Diet Pills are a strange breed, in a scene whose veins are clogged with forgettable, convention following tripe this band carve a different path. The two tracks found here perfectly meld the sounds of Flipper, Jesus Lizard and Neurosis into a monstrously spastic cacophony, wrestling the listener to the floor with the weight of their untamed, bass heavy fuzz. The unhinged David Yow styled vocals set off the mix perfectly, wailing and shrieking through percussive riffing without ever becoming a parody of the Jesus Lizard’s howler. Clear vinyl. Limited edition of 500 copies.

ÅRABROT "The Brother Seed" LP 15€
(Norway Rat Records)
Årabrot is a Norwegian band that plays some downright nasty sounding noise-rock. "The Brother Seed", released through Norway Rat records, is their third album after releasing two previous exceptional slabs of noise. This stuff is pretty killer and absolutely crazed in all the right ways. It's impossible to pinpoint what the singer is going to do, as it seems like every song he shouts, grumbles, and growls in different ways that sound equally terrifying no matter which he chooses. The music keeps things interesting as well, as Årabrot goes back and forth from a claustrophobic wall of distortion and drums to surprisingly melodic parts… or at least as melodic as something like this tends to be. Either way, the variations throughout the album help it maintain a level of consistent interest, along with propelling it to be what probably is their best effort to date. "The Brother Seed" was recorded and mixed by Steve Albini and mastered by Bob Weston at Electrical Audio in Chicago and that's the kind of namedropping that should make you reach for your wallet.
www.myspace.com/arabrot

ÅRABROT "Revenge" 2LP 20€
(Fysisk Format)
Årabrot are a Norwegian noise rock trio who operate in a seriously '90s-besotted style; their rumbling, jagged guitar and pummeling, semi-tribal drumming are all equal parts Unsane, Jesus Lizard, and Knut. Vocalist/guitarist Kjetil Nernes doesn't have David Yow's magnetic personality, but he's got vitriol on his side, and his two partners, drummer Vidar Evensen and effects-meister Stian Skagen, match the waves of noise coming from his instrument with a raw throb all their own. Årabrot patently reject black metal, which has somehow become their homeland's primary musical export over the last 15 years or so; instead, they keep their heads down and make an Amphetamine Reptile-style racket, occasionally turning positively hypnotic (but in more of a cobra-staring-down-a-mouse way than a you-are-getting-very-sleepy way). "The Dolorous Years" is over 12 minutes long, and the last four or five minutes of that are taken up with a pounding drum pattern, over which electronics hiss and roar; it's like a collaboration between Merzbow and Shellac. The final track, "The Primrose Path," is a death march/dirge that crosses Knut's relentless battery with the trudging resignation of Alex Newport's post-Fudge Tunnel band Theory of Ruin. This is an album for people who like their rock to rock, but in the ugliest, meanest way possible.
www.myspace.com/arabrot

ÅRABROT "Solar Anus" LP 15€
(Fysisk Format)
Fifth album by the norse gods of noise rock, Årabrot play their purest, wildest, ugliest rock'n'roll. "Solar Anus" is the fifth album by this Norwegian noise rock act. Their previous album, "Revenge" from 2010, marked the "end of an era and the beginning of something new". While the first four Årabrot albums showed a staggering level of ambition and a sense of musical dramaturgy like no other band, "Solar Anus" shows a band that has found its form, the ambitions and latent genius of the past has come into light. All of the eight tracks that make out "Solar Anus" are recorded and mixed by Steve Albini, known for his work with Pixies, Nirvana and his own bands Big Black and Shellac. Albini's stripped down approach to recording fit well with Årabrot's arrangements, consisting of nothing more than the drums, vocals and a baritone guitar. After finishing the main recordings Årabrot collaborator Concept.Virus infested some of the tracks with electronics, but still most of the tracks were kept clean, open and focused on the primitive force of rhythms, chords and guttural vocals spitting out filthy prose. The title and part of the thematic inspiration of the album is from the french literate Georges Bataille. Like Bataille, Årabrot is fascinated by the joy and energy of unifying the high and the low, the filth and the pure, the animalistic and the divine in man. In songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Kjetil Nernes' own words: "Gold indicates the sun as we hail Bataille's take on the subject of abjection. Solar Anus betokened the Golden Calf - juxtaposed between utmost evil and greater sanctity. Such as the eternal radiance of heaven or the egregious iniquities of the abyss. Or the alchemist of The Holy Mountain converting faeces into gold." "Solar Anus's" eight tracks is Årabrot playing their purest, wildest, ugliest rock'n'roll. Even the tiniest ears in mother earth's soil will open like flowers to the sun.

ÅRABROT "Proposing a Pact with Jesus" CD 10€
(Norway Rat Records)
Amphetamine fuelled darkness, driven home by a fiery delivery by vocalist Kjetil Nernes. Black metal without Satan leaves just blackness and despair. This time out the lads from Haugesund on the Norwegian west-coast have reeled in quite a big fish in legendary producer Billy Anderson. For some known as the man from Porn (The Men of), but mostly it's his legendary skill as producer in the dark end of the spectrum (The Swans, Neurosis, Melvins, Fantomas and Mr. Bungle) which has earned him his well deserved chair in music hell. Probably it's another west-coast act that turned him onto Årabrot, he also produced one CD from Noxagt. And what did he do to the angry young men in Årabrot? Well, he removed most of the scum in the dirty scumnoiserock of the band, and in some ways this is a good thing. The songs stand out much clearer than before, the details of the band's playing reveals a band that has grown quite a bit as musicians and as songwriters. High-points on the album include the fabulous "Liaison Summer" where Årabrot are reminiscent of the legendary Scratch Acid and that sure is a compliment. Another fave is the manic "Scag Cat", these two tracks being the centre pieces and towering highlights of a turbo charged album.

ÅRABROT "Rep.Rep" CD 10€
(Norway Rat Records)
Årabrot are named after a rubbish dump somewhere in their homeland of Norway. Pretty apt really, as even by today's standards, Årabrot's noise-rock is seriously nasty. Moving away from the slightly more tangible Jesus Lizard influence evinced on their great debut album "Proposing a Pact with Jesus" to a more full-on, relentless, deranged din that's almost completely atonal, Årabrot still manage to make things rock in a conventional manner while jamming in more than enough nice twists. The stuck pig vocals just add further to the strung-out vibe this tough album has.

ÅRABROT "I Rove" MCD
(Fysisk Format)
These three madmen, are downright evil, dwelling somewhere among the catacombs of the AmRep vault, near the Burning Witch sludge pit, a step to the left of the Big Black sander and just above the strange sound cut-ups of the Godflesh and Ministry turntables in the corner. Yes, Årabrot are unpredictable and damn near impossible to put any kind of tag on. Take for example the nearly 20 minute kick in the ass of the title track… that the band choose to start off on! Instead of saving such a hulking mass of deconstructed sound for the EP’s finale, they chose to start off with it which hints at the absolute ruthlessness of this trio. The remainder of this EP is but a mere blip, compared to the epic title track but it is still worth a look for the rabid, noise-rock fan. "The Serpent" has a stuttering groove coupled with a nasty, mean streak full of high-pitched vocal shrieks, agonizing riffs and turgid rhythms. The tension of this beast continues to rise until the 2 minute mark, where the band’s full fury is levied against the listener in the form of haggard, noise cum sludge explosions that sound like GodHeadSilo with David Yow on vocals, and a guitar further smashing to Hell the duo aspect of GHS. Capping off the album is a cover of Fang’s "The Money Will Roll Right In" and Årabrot put a distinctly Scratch Acid/Big Black sort of spin on the punk fuelled original.

ÅRABROT "The Brother Seed" CD 10€

ÅRABROT "Revenge" CD 10€

GNAW THEIR TONGUES "Per Flagellum Sanguemque, Tenebras Veneramus" CD 10€
(Crucial Blast)
"Per Flagellum Sanguemque, Tenebras Veneramus"; roughly translated: with blood and whip, we worship the dark. This is the latest collection of atrocities from Gnaw Their Tongues, an eight song investigation into the rites and rituals that emerge from the copper-scented frenzy of the serial killer, the obsessive acts of death worship enacted by those that live on the edge of abyss, the limits of experience sought by black cults. The sound is, as always, immensely heavy, with fractured drums and tunderous tympani skins reverberating within a maelstrom of seething black doom, screeching classical strings, horns, piano, and some of the most vomitous vocals imagineable. However, "Per Flagellum Sanguemque" is marked by the most frenetic percussive attack heard thus far from Gnaw Their Tongues, with volleys of chaotic drumming, fractured blasts, and maniacally complex patterns that sometimes seem to border on free-jazz drumming.

SKULLFLOWER "IIIrd Gatekeeper" CD 10€
(Crucial Blast)
A reissue of Skullflower's acclaimed 1992 album "IIIrd Gatekeeper", featuring the lineup of Matthew Bower (guitar), Stuart Dennison (drums and vocals), and Anthony DiFranco (bass). "IIIrd Gatekeeper" is an immensely heavy album that was originally released on HeadDirt, the label run by Justin Broadrick of Godflesh/Jesu/Final fame back in the early 90's, and featured Skullflower at their heaviest, grinding out slow, sludgy riffs and crushing, almost industrial rhythms amid a tempest of psychedelic guitar noise and dense sheets of feedback - easily the most crushing, rock-based music that Skullflower ever produced. "IIIrd Gatekeeper" served up a skulldozing dose of post-industrial dirge rock that sat comfortably next to Godflesh, Swans, and Ramleh in terms of dark, druggy, hypnotic lumbering heaviness. This reissue is presented with new liner notes, a new package design that retains all of the original artwork from the HeadDirt release, and a remastering job courtesy of Scott Hull at Visceral Sound.

SKULLFLOWER "Orange Canyon Mind" CD 10€
(Crucial Blast)
"Orange Canyon Mind" by the legendary UK free/drone/psych outfit Skullflower, features some of the most searing, synapse scorching droneworks that Matthew Bower (the man behind Skullflower as well as Sunroof! and The Hototogisu) has unleashed to date. "Orange Canyon Mind" is the follow up to 2002's awesome "Exquisite Fucking Boredom" and continues that albums utter mutation of stoned out riffs pulled taffy-like into eternity/oblivion and star-rupturing blasts of sonic white light. Over the 8 tracks/60 minute running time, Bower and cohorts build massive horizontal drones and melodic supernovas. Superb, beautiful, brain melting stuff.

SKULLFLOWER "Tribulation" CD 10€
(Crucial Blast)
This emission from the UK trance-noise legends Skullflower is a black-void beaming of utterly destroyed drone rock and crushing amplifier obliteration that rains down black ash and punishing blasts of feedback skree on the listener. A dynamic, bleary-eyed meditation. An avalanche of powerdrone that threatens to take your cranium apart and transport your grey matter into filthy new dimensions infested with melodic razor cuts and submerged mantras. A triumphant eruption of apocalyptic meta-metal and radioactive raga swarms, guaranteed to loosen eardrums. This album is one of the heaviest, harshest slabs of guitar armageddon from Matt Bower since the glory days of Total, and bridges the void between the krautrock/celestial free drone influence of the last few Skullflower albums, and the blackened molten death of his Mirag material.

WEEDEATER "Sixteen Tons" CD 10€
(Crucial Blast)
A masterwork of southern fried sludge core. The soundtrack to your next zombie beach party. "Sixteen Tons" churns out a black hole of thunderous, snarling swamp doom from acclaimed rebel rockers Weedeater (featuring Dixie Dave of confederate metal legends Buzzov·en). With monstrous production courtesy of Billy Anderson (Melvins, Swans, Cathedral, Sleep etc.), these ten whiskey soaked anthems are heavier than a mastodon trapped in a tarpit. Crusty, wasted, and buried.

MR. PETER HAYDEN "Faster than Speed (or Violating Special Relativity)" 2LP 20€
(Mikrofoni)
In the album notes for Mr. Peter Hayden's "Faster than Speed" album it states "The songs deal with time" and time is exactly what you need to fully appreciate the spacious, lush sounds that are projected over two tracks that both have playing times of over 30 minutes each. Using sounds created by guitars, bass, drums, percussion and finished with synthesizers, piano, wind instruments and various acoustic elements. The soundscapes here are very cinematic as styles from doom metal, drone, psychedelia, space rock to experimental prog-rock are interwoven into an endless stream of ambient, flowing hypnotic music. It's pure music made for meditative listening as there is no catchy hooks, no riffs to make you grab your air-guitar and while it has certain melodic segments, the emphasis is on slow-building atmospherics. Two slabs of black 180g vinyl in beautiful gatefold sleeve.

MOUNT SHASTA / DENISON KIMBALL TRIO / ZEEK SHECK / KILLDOZER "Sides 7-10" 2x7"
(Skin Graft Records/Gasoline Boost)
Volume three in the Skin Graft Records/Gasoline Boost 7" series with 90s noise rock bands doing cover versions of AC/DC classics. Chicago's swamp boogie masters Mount Shasta kick off with "Whole Lotta Rosie", a full on rock fest that will have you jumping around the house and searching for that closeted jean jacket! In stark contrast, Denison Kimball Trio exercise more restraint than anyone would expect from two members of The Jesus Lizard. Duane and Jim commit "Back In Blanc" (note: that's not a typo), an atmospheric salute that glides off the turn table and plants itself deep in your right hemisphere. The second platter picks up with the wild and wooly Zeek Sheck. Rose Perkins-Meyers and her friends from the Chicago no wave scene funk "Wowy - AC/DC I'm Electric", an electro-acoustic slice of divine oddness in the Ralph Record tradition. The legacy of the late great Killdozer continues with "Let Me Put My Love Into You", a slow, powerful dirge of unearthly heaviness. A fitting tribute from a band renowned for their tributes. The sleeve, in Skin Graft tradition, is a 12-page comic book where Todd Fischer (Nood Ham) joins his brother Mark to illustrate "North Pole Vaulting", continuing the deconstruction of the story introduced on "Sides 1-4". Two black vinyls in a comic book sleeve.

YOWIE / COLOSSAMITE / PRE / MULE "Sides 11-14" Split 2x7"
(Skin Graft Records/Gasoline Boost)
Fourth and final volume in the Skin Graft Records/Gasoline Boost 7" series with 90s noise rock bands doing cover versions of AC/DC classics. The newly reformed Yowie turn AC/DC’s "Thunderstruck" sideways to take the listener on a technically impeccable, hyper-alien-math-rock sugar high - played with spaghetti-strung guitars and stop on a dime drums. The members of Gorge Trio (John and Ed of Deerhoof) plus Nick Sakes (vocalist of Dazzling Killmen) unite one final time as Colossamite for a maddening metal medley of AC/DC’s greatest hits. London’s no wave naughties Pre apply their merry-go-round grind to the certified classic “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”. Vaulted for 10 years and previously unreleased, here is the final recording from the legendary Touch and Go / Quarterstick Recording artist Mule, featuring the restrained redneck blues of PW Long on vocals and guitar. The sleeve is a densely illustrated 20 page comic book written and drawn by Skin Graft's Mark Fischer. Two brown marbled vinyls in a comic book sleeve.

BAD DRUGS "White Powder" LP 15€
(Rotted Tooth Recordings)
Bad Drugs is one of Chicago’s absolute best noise rock bands, not just of now, of all time. And with the storied history of noisy rock bands formed by the oppressive nature of the Windy (not to mention cold, hot, overcrowded, and stank-ass) City, that’s saying something. "White Powder" is an absolutely punishing, brutal, and gnarly noise rock record through and through. Other bands in the genre sometimes hide their lack of ability behind noise, which is fine and dandy ‘cause we’re all about non-musicians making a racket, but this is not the case with Bad Drugs. Each of these dudes is totally adept at their respective instruments. So adept that even the thick layer of noise that resides between phrases can’t mask the skill residing in these dudes' skulls. By now you should know the Bad Drugs drummer well. He’s been trapped behind the trap set for years now. Remember the awesomely monickered Lightning Bolt-ness of Slut Barf? Remember the post-Coughs art metal of Cacaw? Remember the heavy-handed cave punk of Heavy Times? Kyle Reynolds was the man keeping time and breaking sticks in all of those bands prior and/or during his Bad Drugs tenure. The burnsided bassist Andrew Martinec can also be found making noise with stringed instruments in the (literally) mentally challenged Arts of Life Band and raping skulls in the incredible Psychedelic Santa Traveller around the holidays. We’re not exactly sure where guitarist Patrick LaBahn came from, but we imagine he spent the better part of his youth mastering the electric six-string in a dingy basement somewhere rather than developing standard social skills. You know one must learn the rules in order to break them successfully, and Patrick breaks 'em all with precision. He must know more rules than Coltrane knew and he’s as good an axe-wielder as Dave Knudson. If Knudson had played with Unsane, and Unsane were from Providence, that'd be as close an approximation of the Bad Drugs vibe as we can think of. They have a better sense of humor (not present in their music, but) in their song titles than most bands too. There's the Windy City-centric "Ga'an Fishing" and "Go Ghost a-go-go". The RATM-spoofy “Chilling in the Name of" and the Verhoevenian "Robo Clop". And the album's called "Raw Powder". How brilliant is that? Fucking brilliant! Each and every single goddamn one of these songs R-I-P. Oh yeah, and the vinyl glows in the dark. Each side ends in an obnoxious locked groove. The art is fucking amazing, just like the rest of the Rotted Tooth releases. And it’s limited to 300 hand-numbered copies.

CACAW "Bat Skin Robes" Tape
(Rotted Tooth Recordings)
Artwork of Cacaw's latest and last release "Bat Skin Robes" by Mister City Press features an ornate, serpentine theme that suggests a true indulgence, or perhaps a rare artifact from a strange land. That theme carries through to the music, as the group further refines their brutal sound. Progressing from the unrestrained sludge of their debut "Get a Brain" and the self-titled full length, "Bat Skin Robes" showcases a precise recording aesthetic with more dynamic range. If you are familiar with their earlier recordings, there is simply more presence on this release than their previous efforts, accenting the heaviness by focusing on more than the group’s bottom end. Both Zack Weil and Carrie Vinarsky provide dual bass parts for the recording, but Anya Davidson’s guitar is nothing less than blistering, and Kyle Reynolds prominently features a relentless drum attack based around rapid-fire beats and what sounds like extensive double bass. Stemming from their precise recording aesthetic, framing this release in clearer fidelity and defining the group’s cohesion, this release finally seems to come closer to capturing the sound of the piercing intensity that jumps at the audience during their live shows. Cacaw’s songwriting shifts are also evident through both sides of the release, and at the end of the set, one should be compelled to conclude that this is a different type of heavy on "Bat Skin Robes". This release will be perfect for any fan of off-center sludge, grunge, punk, doom, acid, death metal, hardcore, or attention-grabbing rock music. Cacaw indeed fit the last description perfectly. Green pro-duplicated tape in full colour screenprinted sleeve, limited and numbered to 200 copies.

The new wave of Finnish sludge keeps on growing and Woodrue join the ranks with a strong offering. Two guitars, bass, drums, vocals, riffs, Satan, dope and depravity - they got it all! Pleasantly dirty and rugged recording of four songs influenced by the usual suspects (Eyehategod, Buzzov·en, Sourvein, Weedeater etc.), adding a twist stemming from Finnish yearly suicide rates to the mix. 20 minutes of sludge the way it's meant to be. DIVORCE / JAILHOUSE FUCK Split 10" 10€
(SixSixSixties Records)
This 10" is a perfectly matched collision of Divorce and their Northern European (namely Swedish) equivalent Jailhouse Fuck. If anything, the Glasgow-based quartet are the nastier of the pair, with "Cactusk" an especially hateful, down-tempo outpouring of bile. Noisy punk rock, punky noise rock, rocking punk noise. Jailhouse Fuck are fractionally more whimsical in their contributions. Only very slightly, mind, as this is still some intensely visceral stuff. Their opening number, "Lick Your Stick", is built on some frantic guitar work as well as a chorus that's about as anthemic as this sort of unfettered catharsis gets. What results is a hideously good, brilliantly unpleasant fuck-you of an EP that courses with the enduring spirit of true punk rock abandon. Black vinyl. Limited edition of 250 copies.

CORRUPTED "Garten Der Unbewusstheit" CD 10€
(Nostalgia Blackrain)
And so, the consciousness left from the body being wounded and exhausted by the countless difficulties of life, assimilated with the spring called infinity, like healing oneself. An infinity and eternity. An eternity and symbol of death. A symbol of death and wellspring of creation. Rising from the wellspring of creation, the product will rest forever even after the ruin of the body of the creator, reprocessing in front of another new lives. But as the time passes by, our lives in reality are loosing it's imaginative fascination by the material, times, and the evil named science. Our lives are full of lies. Our suffering demented soul will completely support death. Just because of the strong love for "life". Corrupted should be the rare existence as the band is nowadays struggling to expose the lies of life. Their 4th album is entitled "Garten Der Unbewusstheit", which means "garden of unconsciousness". This is the final album by the "original" Corrupted featuring 3 tracks, 63 minutes in total. But "garden of unconsciousness" should have existed from the early hardcore approaching days of Corrupted. The reason is not clear, but definitely what was going on was not progression, nor development but seeking and recurrence. So the fact is that the beat on this album is most calm, gentle, and transparent than ever. And this paradoxical evolution form is nothing but the result of huge studio works, mixing thousands of feedbacks and guitar overtones like constructing the three dimensional architecture. The remarkable point of this 3 track hour of suit is that this album totally transcends our usual sense of time. Feeling minutes and seconds like infinity, and feeling 60 minutes and 3600 seconds like a brief moment. This transcending sense can be described as the sense of liberation from material and life through music. So first of all, let's experience this album and expose the lies of our "given life". At last, as many may already know, the vocalist Hevi and guitarist Talbot left the group after recording of this album and 17 years of activities since 1994. Now Corrupted has a new singer Taiki (ex- Freedom, Diabolic Art) stepping forward to another unknown level. Like inviting us to another garden of unconsciousness...

THE JAM SESSION "När mörkret väller över / Att skingra det mörker som betäcker landet" Tape
(Erode Releases)
This tape compiles the last two releases by The Jam Session, containing the full-length album "När mörkret väller över" released on Concubine Records in 2006 and the 12" "Att skingra det mörker som betäcker landet" released on Crucificados Pelo Sistema in 2003. These two releases left behind the hyperactive and chaotic punky approach of earlier material, opting towards a doomier, sludgier and perhaps more metallic sound. Don't expect to hear any high speed guitar twiddling though, the "metal" here is of the filthier kind and blends perfectly together with the band's sludge/doom vibe which is spiced with obscure ambient sounds as well. The hand-painted and sticker labelled tape comes in a full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 300 copies.

This is the debut release from this mysterious Southampton (on the south coast of England) quintet. Imagine an unholy meeting between Oxbow, The Jesus Lizard and The Stooges in the philosophy/adult aisle of your local library, and you might be halfway there. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. Limited edition of 300 copies.

PIG HEART TRANSPLANT / THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE Split 7"
(SuperFi Records)
Pig Heart Transplant is the noise based side-project of Jon Kortland from Iron Lung, though you will find hefty doses of downtuned aggro-stoner in there too. The Endless Blockade were ex-Shank and made power violence with numerous nods towards the harsh noise scene, making this a perfect matchup. After several releases of their own and even more split releases (with the likes of Unearthly Trance, The Bastard Noise, Iron Lung, Hatred Surge etc.), this split 7" marks their final release. Black vinyl in beautiful silk-screened fold out sleeve. Limited edition of 545 copies.

GEISHA "Mondo Dell'Orrore" CD 10€
(SuperFi Records/Blood Red Sounds)
Devouring/rebirthing the concept of "noise rock" into something frighteningly beautiful and brutally heavy, Geisha deliver crushing blasts of impossibly hyperdistorted rock baked in massive frequency overload and massive hooks and melodies and sinister crushing riffs, all of it slathered in filthy throbbing feedback and white noise horror holocaust, like the early 90's alt rock of "Isn't Anything" -era My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr. mashed together with the most brutal sort of Unsane/Am Rep style racket and distortion-drenched psych/noise into a sludgy metallic mass, jamming with a small army of pedal-smashing harsh electronics troglodytes playing awesomely catchy/crushing pop songs buried beneath a hellish storm of skree and amp-blowing fuzz. Terrifying. Beautiful.

SNOWBLOOD "s/t" CD 10€
(SuperFi Records)
The third and final outing from this Glasgow based band, now sadly defunct. Their previous albums, "The Human Tragedy" (2003) and "Being and Becoming" (2005), earned Snowblood the description of "Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Neurosis clashing together" and this final album only strengthens the image raised by that comparison. The hour long journey actually starts pretty serene as the first of the four untitled tracks starts with delicate atmospheric programming, soft percussive approach, shimmering guitar gait and clean singing, lulling you into a false sense of security before the track erupts into a seething, screaming, frenzy of lurching riffs and a huge bluesy, stoner rock groove. And that’s the first 18 minutes. The second track has a tough act to follow but its moody strumming, cello/violin and dark crooning set a nice mood akin to Neurosis in deft, dark artistry, but you can feel the urgency starting to build and eventually it does erupt at 9:44 into a huge but controlled doomy lurch. The somber, more post rock and Neurosis influenced hues continue to start the third track, where delicate strings back steady, languid, shimmering riffs and clean vocals make for a hypnotic 10 minutes even with some pained screaming towards the end. The 17 minute closer has a very slight Tool influence before a massive sludgy section and crippling atmospheric segue and eventual explosion of hefty, pummeling sludge and it's simply brilliant, closing a brilliant album in fitting fits of exasperation and rending emotion. Stylish carton sleeve with artwork by Glyn of Scrawled. Limited edition of 500 copies.

WALLS "The Future is Wide Open" LP 12€
(De Graanrepubliek)
The paranoia and unease of one man is hard to measure physically. Walls has done this sonically so that the more timid people out there don't have to get their hands quite so dirty. They will still have to do the work though. There is always the work. "The Future is Wide Open" is a sarcastic bite out of society's apple. And what a rotten apple indeed. Bursting with angst and tension, this album is a relentless hardcore punk/noise rock demon-sound. There is no release from the future. The gates are shut. You know how some bands are described with images of axes, hammers or other equipment just to describe how brutal they are? Well, Walls are like knives. You don't see them coming but you can feel they are here. Bleak and harsh. This is rage. The European pressing on De Graanrepubliek comes on black vinyl.

BUILDINGS "Cry Melt Sleep" LP 15€
(Cash Cow Production)
Formed in 2006, Buildings is a three piece from Minneapolis. Their music is loud, aggressive and dynamic. "Melt Cry Sleep" is the band's 2nd full-length, and the follow up to 2008's self-released "Braille Animal". Engineer Jacques Wait has perfectly reined in the band's furious energy, allowing the 10 tightly wound tracks on "Melt Cry Sleep" room to breathe in contrast to their raw and visceral live sets. One might think from the blistering opener "Rainboat" that it's all loud and fast, but Buildings is deceptive in their songwriting. Often switching gears several times within a song, as evidenced on tracks "Born on a Bomb" and "Invocation". New bassist Sayer Payne's driving bass lines and Travis Kuhlman's frantic drumming work in tandem to steer through the chaos on songs like "I Don't Love My Dog Anymore" and "Night Cop". Combined with Brian Lake's snarling vocals and eerie, atonal guitar on songs like "Wrong Cock" and the madness of the closer "Crystal City", Buildings never end where they began. Insert here the obligatory "what would it sound like if Pissed Jeans, The Jesus Lizard, '89-'92 Helmet and perhaps Young Widows got into the same bed after a night of heavy drinking" -rant. If that doesn't raise your interest, there's a naked chick holding a bag of balls on the front cover of "Melt Cry Sleep"! If that doesn't do it, go back to your Erasure records. 180g black vinyl comes with an mp3 download coupon.

WITCH "Die Fehl-Ritzhausen Kassette" Tape
(Who Can You Trust? Records)
There's nothing to say that hasn't already been said… One thing is clear – Witch's music is made to be played live and this recording proves it with every second and perfectly reflects an extraordinary musical vision that is far apart from being just a random number in a pool of todays so called "stoner/(whatever) rock" bands. Anyone who's able to chew this thick chunk of meat a bit longer will grasp a glimpse of the weird beauty it conceals. This tape was recorded live at the Roadburn Festival 2008 and Witch on this recording were J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) on drums, Dave Sweetapple (Sweet Apple) on bass, Antoine Guerlain on guitar and Kyle Thomas (Feathers, Happy Birthday) on guitar and vocals. Violet tape with on-shell printing and full colour j-card. Limited edition of 200 copies.
