BRAINBOMBS "Obey" LP 16€
(Armageddon Label)
Armageddon Label has done the proper thing by doing another re-press of the classic Brainbombs album, "Obey", originally released in 1995. Eight festering tracks of open-sore noise rock damage, played simple, ugly and for maximum effect. A total car wreck, with guts spread all over the highway. This LP will take you down from feeling like a million bucks to fucking gutter trash. Red vinyl in black/silver sleeve. Limited edition of 486 copies.

MR. PETER HAYDEN "Born a Trip" 2LP 20€
(Mikrofoni.net/Rämekuukkeli-levyt)
Able and free, Mr. Peter Hayden, a five-piece from northern Satakunta, Finland, bring you their time-cultivating improvisations and visionary metaphysics with an ever-changing approach towards presentation and incomparable knowledge of the future. Their sound is delivered as a soundtrack to your spiritual rebirth as walls of consciousness crumble and planets melt into mind-eroding seas of acid. No more waves and no more cores. This space-age travelogue of a drug-lazed time-trip will be all you need to feel. Voyage to fringe of freedom and mental stability, lesson in self-medication, guide to overcome this plane of existence, a trip to live through to be whole once again. Two heavy black vinyls in gatefold sleeve. Limited edition of 300 copies.

SINKING SUNS "s/t" 7"
(Sinking Suns)
If you played this single blindly, you could guess that whoever it was were contemporaries of bands like Big'n, Six Horse, Double Boar, Drunk Tank, and the endless list of bands that sounded kind of like this during that period of the 90's. Instead it's a single recently released by Sinking Suns, who previously put out a digital only EP. It may be in their best interest for future runs though to keep pressing these tunes to vinyl though for the foreseeable future. Why? Because it sounds really good. And as much as these two tracks serve as an instant time warp, it's a welcome one that succeeds in having a production value that echoes those times as well. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve with sticker. Limited edition of 200 copies.

TEMPLES "Periplaneta Nova" LP 12€
(Mikrofoni.net)
Debut album from Temples, a Finnish stoner/doom/space/psychedelic quartet. Four lengthy tracks of free-flowing jam-like riffage and dense psychedelic effect textures. If the likes of Hawkwind, Om, Sleep among others are your usual choice to provide musical background for bong-loading sessions, Temples are right up your alley. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with full colour insert.

HEBOSAGIL "Lähtö" LP 15€
(Full Contact Records)
The Maya didn't know anything, whereas Hebosagil knows when the hour comes, when it's time for Lähtö, and their manner of exiting is big, loud, penetrating, and hard to the core. From the fallout, the radiometers are detecting remnant radiation from Slayer and Melvins, while the cockroaches may still recognise the brutal beat of Radiopuhelimet and Unsane. Musically, Hebosagil's "Lähtö" relies equally on their previous material and on turning a new page. They plunge towards more and more tormenting tunes that stick to your frontal lobe, avoiding the pitfalls from which most of the so-called heavy and uncompromising bands are eternally doomed to seek a way out. They don't know anything. Hebosagil knows. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with printed full colour inner sleeve.

BIG'N "Spare the Horses" 10" 10€
(Africantape)
Yep, new music from Big'n, who were last heard from on a split EP they did with Oxes back in '99 and even by that point they had called it a day. "Spare the Horses" features four new tracks from the band and if you were to play it for someone and tell them it came out at any point during their 90's discography, they wouldn't blink an eye. The band hasn't lost a single step. In fact, it's to be argued that their still gaining them after listening to these four songs. In some cases it may be a bit of a slight to say a band sounds exactly the same as they did when they were originally around, however Big'n has always sounded like Big'n and no one else. And for those that are fans of the band and Chicago styled noise rock in general, it can only mean good things that these tracks pick up immediately where they left off. The EP fulfills every expectation that could have been had for new material from these guys. It's ever bit as tense, energetic, and upfront as their music ever was. Welcome back Big'n and thanks for stomping our skulls in again all these years later. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve.

VENTURA "Ultima Necat" LP+CD 13€
(Africantape/Vitesse Records)
Stepping into the space left vacant by the great fallen heroes of two decades ago, Ventura give us their third album, "Ultima Necat". The record is once again a beautiful slab of early nineties rock, a piece of history boldly reinterpreted by the three nicest mean bastards this side of the pond. Think Hum, cause the guitars are heavy. Think Come, cause the vocals slide gracefully. Think Shellac, cause the bass pounds. Think Nirvana, cause the drummer hits. Think Jesus Lizard, cause Ventura backed David Yow on a tour. But most of all, think hard, cause you don't want to miss them. Black vinyl in beautiful gatefold sleeve including a CD version of the record.

BAXTER STOCKMAN "Romance" 7"
(Kult of Nihilow)
Finally, after two small EPs and one compilation track, Baxter Stockman unleash their first vinyl release. The bruised ass on the cover promises a violent spanking and this Helsinki trio doesn't fail to deliver it! Connecting the dots from Jesus Lizard's frantic groove to Steve Albini's testicles would make a shape resembling Baxter Stockman, but how many years (even decades!) do you need to count back until you find a new band succeeding in making this sort of racket sound fresh? After drawing a blank with your calculations, just get a copy of this 7" and get the gut-punch you deserve. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 261 copies.

FISTULA "Hymns of Slumber" LP 12€
(Blind Date Records)
Fistula was born in Litchfield, a little speck of dust, with cornfields and nothing around. "Hymns of Slumber" was their debut album, originally released on Shifty Records on CD in 2001. Now, more than a decade later finally available on vinyl. Nihilistic, anti-social, primitive sludge. A thick, filthy, blackened crawl, howled demonic vocals over caustic riffage and neanderthal drumming. If you are looking for the real sludge-core feeling you will dig this one. All records come with a banderolle, black/white insert and vinyl with special engraving between the songs. Artwork by Scott Stearns. Limited edition of 187 black copies and 109 on white vinyl. DRUNK DAD "Morbid Reality" 12" 13€
(Eolian Empire)
"Morbid Reality", the first vinyl release from Drunk Dad, Portland's favorite (bad) boy band, captures their coarse blend of early 80's hardcore
(the good stuff), metallic noise rock, and—of course—that inimitable Pacific Northwest sound (it must be something in the trees). If they weren't such dirty fuckers they'd be one of Portland's shining success stories of unrelenting hard work and dedication: in a surprisingly short time Drunk Dad went from favorite-band-shirts-on-their-hearts-on-their-sleeves to a unique and dynamic fusion of the heavy, the noisy, and the aggro, with a healthy dose of high drama, as they consistently churn out some of the most devastating live sets Portland has seen in years. Complex but in-your-face arrangements, push-pull duel-guitar interplay, searing behind-the-head leads, heavy motherfucking bass, and hard-hitting, tight, technical traps with dynamic, disturbing vocals to hold it all together. Ethical scumbaggery at its finest. Black vinyl in silkscreened sleeve including a lyrics insert. Limited edition of 500 copies.

RABBITS "Sloth vs Bees" 7"
(Eolian Empire)
The second release and vinyl-debut from Portland's confounding grunge sludge trio, Rabbits. "Sloth" is a furious and brut attack with reckless screeching guitars and pounding drums, while "Bees" is slow and anthemic lament about work. Black vinyl in screenprinted green on green sleeve with insert. Limited edition of 500 copies.
http://rabbits.bandcamp.com

RABBITS "Hide" 10" 10€
(Eolian Empire)
Four more hardcore grit-and-grime songs from this 4-amp, 3-man, 2-guitar, 1-drum-kit cluster of Rabbits. Continuing with their lyrical themes of evolution, space, and time, it's clear the sludgy down-tuned riffs churned out here are not boneheaded stoner jams but drunken leaps into the existential void. "Hide" brings forth swarming sounds of both blistered and booming guitars set to the hypnotic rhythms of a drummer pounding his kit to rubble. Black vinyl in silkscreened sleeve including a black/white insert. Limited edition of 333 copies.

RABBITS "Lower Forms" LP 15€
(Eolian Empire)
Portland's Rabbits show that they aren't afraid to get dirty on their Relapse debut "Lower Forms". The band's unbelievably raw, low-end rock is a punishing collision of distortion and volume bristling with punk attitude. "Lower Forms" is a messy affair and shows that this power-trio is at the forefront of the noise-rock, dirt-rock revival. This is the vinyl pressing of the CD originally released by Relapse Records. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. Limited edition of 500 copies.

RABBITS / UNDER MOUNTAINS Split 12" 13€
(Eolian Empire)
Rabbits is circus-heavy bashology fusing a simplicity and intensity of fuzzed guitars and rhythmic drums unparalleled in the murky waters of sludge music. Down-and-dirty, bellyache and grimace-inducing moonshine metal at its finest. Under Mountains boasts balls of steel at each quick turn of their lo-tech, progged-out, doom-grunge tempered with blasts of noise and bottom-feeding rumble. Black vinyl in silkscreened sleeve with black/white insert. Limited edition of 500 copies.

ÅRABROT / RABBITS Split 7"
(Eolian Empire/Fysisk Format)
Noise mongers unite! The intangible, ever-changing, and ever-strange noise orchestra that is Norway's Årabrot meets Portland's sludge-punk kings Rabbits to commemorate their joint tour of Europe in spring 2013. As if twins separated at birth with a psychic connection that spans a continent and ocean, both acts have mired themselves in the most base elements of rock and rebuilt these primitive pieces into music of violent, raw beauty. Seriously heavy stuff on seriously heavy vinyl. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 500 copies.

HOT LUNCH "s/t" LP 14€
(Who Can You Trust? Records)
Anyone familiar with the heavy, hard-driving punk 'n' roll of San Francisco's Hot Lunch will tell you that they took too long to release their debut album. But the Lunch lads prefer to do things the old fashioned way – they funded it by saving the money made from playing shows. They also wanted to work with Tim Green of Louder Studios, who could capture the ass-kicking, face-punching, mouth-slapping intensity of their live performances onto an analogue two-inch tape medium for a classic sounding fidelity. The band is happy. Guitarist Aaron Nudelman (Mensclub), singer Eric Shea (Parchman Farm), bassist Charlie Karr (Harold Ray Live In Concert) and drummer Rob Alper (SLA) never wanted anything from music but to press vinyl that would sit comfortably in their record collections alongside such influences as Grand Funk Railroad, Black Flag, UFO, Rush, BL'AST!, Ace Frehley, Coloured Balls, Dead Kennedys and Hawkwind. With a deep love for skateboarding, the Hot Lunch dudes don't take for granted that they get to regularly play with other bands redefining skate-rock. They are thankful to call Lecherous Gaze, Earthless, Hightower, The Shrine, Pins Of Light, Glitter Wizard, Carlton Melton and Drunk Horse their friends. But instead of trying to impress you by dropping the names of the more popular acts they've played with, the guys in Hot Lunch would prefer to brag about the time they rocked on the deep-end decks of the pool where the Tim Brauch Memorial Skateboard Contest was held. Or when they played the after-party for the Nevada City premier of Stacy Peralta's Bones Brigade documentary. Or that Thrasher Magazine leaked a couple of these tunes to soundtrack their King Of The Road video before inviting the band to play a party at Double Rock, their private skatepark. All this aside, the band would much rather have you listen to their music than read about it. So with that in mind, thank you for your time and enjoy the heavy jams of Hot Lunch's self-titled debut album on Who Can You Trust? Records. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 500 copies.

BUILDINGS "Melt Cry Sleep" LP 15€
(Cash Cow Production)
Formed in 2006, Buildings is a three piece from Minneapolis. Their music is loud, aggressive and dynamic. "Melt Cry Sleep" is the band's 2nd full-length, and the follow up to 2008's self-released "Braille Animal". Engineer Jacques Wait has perfectly reined in the band's furious energy, allowing the 10 tightly wound tracks on "Melt Cry Sleep" room to breathe in contrast to their raw and visceral live sets. One might think from the blistering opener "Rainboat" that it's all loud and fast, but Buildings is deceptive in their songwriting. Often switching gears several times within a song, as evidenced on tracks "Born on a Bomb" and "Invocation". New bassist Sayer Payne's driving bass lines and Travis Kuhlman's frantic drumming work in tandem to steer through the chaos on songs like "I Don't Love My Dog Anymore" and "Night Cop". Combined with Brian Lake's snarling vocals and eerie, atonal guitar on songs like "Wrong Cock" and the madness of the closer "Crystal City", Buildings never end where they began. Insert here the obligatory "what would it sound like if Pissed Jeans, The Jesus Lizard, '89-'92 Helmet and Young Widows got into the same bed after a night of heavy drinking" -rant. If that doesn't raise your interest, there's a naked chick holding a bag of balls on the front cover of "Melt Cry Sleep"! If that doesn't do it, go back to your Erasure records. Second press on 180g black vinyl comes with a digital download coupon in an edition of 290 copies out of 490 copies in total.

HAWKS / BUILDINGS Split 7"
(Cash Cow Production)
So here we have a brand new split single from Buildings, teaming up with fellow noise rockers Hawks. Buildings offer up more of the chugging, churning, rhythmic mathy radness, the bass super distorted, the guitars buzzy, the band immediately locking into some serious crush, swaggery and snarly and heavy as fuck, both tracks here laced with squalls of feedback and driven by some seriously kick ass drumming, not to mention some soaring distorto guitar swirl and some blown out bass buzz. Cannot get enough of these guys! Hawks counter with their own take on mathy, noisy heaviness, starting off with a weird sample, and a slow swell of distorted guitar, before the drums kick in, and the song lurches into a pounding, riffy swagger, the vocals a bearded bellow, it all reminds us of that old classic Sub Pop sound, a bit grungy, a little poppy, but seriously heavy. And when the lead guitar swoops in, it transforms everything, and the song is suddenly catchy as fuck! The second track is a bit busier, with weird chiming guitar harmonics, wild drumming, more bellowed vox, and again, the grunge vibe is huge, which is really the only way we could dig this sort of noise rock sound ANY more. Yellow vinyl in full colour sleeve with a digital download code. Limited edition of 500 copies.

NÜ SENSAE "Sundowning" LP 15€
(Suicide Squeeze Records)
Nü Sensae has taken big risks with even bigger payoffs on this release. Proving just how unpredictable they can be, they abandoned their status as a duo — a favourite angle of both the media and fans — and recruited Vancouver noise rock great Brody McKnight as a full-time member. Previously working with the now-legendary group Mutators, McKnight has added another dimension of heaviness to the band's already mind-melting sludge attack. They've also embraced diversity in other ways, allowing more loud-quiet dynamics into their songwriting. From the creeping dirge of "Tea Swamp Park" to the vast expanse of "Say What You Are", the quiet sections offer brief moments of uneasy solace between the full out attack of songs like "100 Shades", "Tyjna" and "Eat Your Mind". Elsewhere, subtle but defined melodies surface amidst the fuzz of tracks like "Burnt Masks" and "Dust". Don't be mistaken, though: "Sundowning" is designed to bludgeon with the raw aggression that can only come from the best elements of noise, punk and grunge. White vinyl in full colour sleeve with black/white insert, mp3 download coupon and poster. Limited edition of 500 copies.

NÜ SENSAE / THE COATHANGERS Split 7"
(Suicide Squeeze Records)
Atlanta's reigning garage rock daughters The Coathangers return with the third installment in their series of split 7"s on Suicide Squeeze. This time they've teamed up with labelmates Nü Sensae. Both new listeners and longtime fans of The Coathangers will be whipped into a frenzy with "Derek's Song", a party-banger perfectly encapsulating the quartet's capacity for sharp hooks and jagged instrumentation. Nü Sensae contribute "Throw" to their side of the split. Rounding out their sound with the recent addition of guitarist Brody McKnight, Nü Sensae's newest song is a ferocious and harrowing leap forward. Brody unleashes foreboding guitar squalls while bassist/vocalist Andrea Lukic rages like Kim Gordon at her most incendiary moments and Daniel Pitout beats his drums to a bloody pulp. The Coathangers' side will make you wanna get off your ass and dance while the Nü Sensae side will make you wanna go torch a car. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve including a sticker and mp3 download coupon. The black vinyl version is limited to 500 copies out of 750 copies in total.

BURNING LOVE / FIGHT AMP Split 7"
(Hell Comes Home)
Sixth instalment in the 12-part split 7" series by the Irish label, Hell Comes Home. The sixth split involves two substantial international names, Canadian, Toronto-based hardcore bunch Burning Love and the US noise rockers Fight Amp, from New Jersey, a pairing for a dose of high octane raaaawk! Similar attitude and coolness, similar pleasure in mixing styles in their powerful sounds but different moods. And so your mood as well will make you fall for either band. Let's say that it is as if the bully of the school and the drug addict menacing you with a syringe at your throat are placed together in the same place: such pairing will greatly, let's say, "diminish" the boy. In their track "The Body", Burning Love basically play rock even if it involves a blend of styles which is surprising for the homogeneity of its result. In some instances "The Body" might even stay on "Songs for the Deaf", refreshing acid noisy, fast desert rock. But if you are into the fighting, twisted or pessimist mood, well, your heart is going to beat for the dissonant punk aggression emanating from "Shallow Grave" by Fight Amp. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. A very limited amount available separately from the Hell Comes Home "Volume 1" 12x7" box set.

COFFINWORM / FISTULA Split 7"
(Hell Comes Home)
Seventh instalment in the 12-part split 7" series by the Irish label, Hell Comes Home. Indiana's purveyors of blackened sludge and filth, Coffinworm open up this record and immediately you are surrounded by misanthropy and darkness. This is the realm in which Coffinworm dwells. The atmosphere that the band sets for their song is truly unnerving. From faster, black metal passages to slow and droning doom passages, the dark, endearing veil surrounding this band is never raised. This track is just over four-and-a-half minutes of stunning brute force and filth and it is fucking beautiful. When Ohio's sludge kings Fistula burst out on their side of this split, your brain will melt and ooze out of your left ear. The slow, steady pace that these monsters maintain is ridiculous. Much like Coffinworm, Fistula also have an aura surrounding their music but theirs is more of a "beer and sex"-type of aura and not a "kill yourself" atmosphere. A little bit into "Drugs and Deception", the track picks up a little but the sludge washes over you still, like a wave pool of sewage. Fistula definitely always have a groove to their tunes and you cannot help but bang your head. The guitar work on this track is extraordinary. Steady but mesmerizing at the same time. It's really an amazing thing. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. A very limited amount available separately from the Hell Comes Home "Volume 1" 12x7" box set.

DEAD ELEPHANT / RABBITS Split 7"
(Hell Comes Home)
Twelfth and final instalment in the 12-part split 7" series by the Irish label, Hell Comes Home. As soon as Dead Elephant enter into action with heir "Carne De Perro", it is clear that their split fellows, Rabbits, will have to work hard! The Italian post-hardcore trio play according to their own personal rhythm making them difficult to be confined into rigid genre classification schemes. Everything seems to collide and mix up into a sound maelstrom devouring and splintering languages and styles with impressive energy and ease at the same time. So it comes almost as natural to eventually hear the chaotic storm sharply giving way to a long and alienating, atmospheric tail. Rabbits have the honour and burden of closing the split as well as the entire collection. This US noise-punk-thrash metal trio from Portland, Oregon is the ideal mate for what came before. With their strained screams and clanging sounds in "War, Oh My", these guys are able to transmute the starting sound into an alien beast out of control. The sounds, and your breath, will become more and more gasping, rhythms, and your heart, will first speed up and then slow down. All will sum up into a sonic delirium eventually accompanying the listener towards the end, into silence. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. A very limited amount available separately from the Hell Comes Home "Volume 1" 12x7" box set.

DEPHOSPHORUS / GREAT FALLS Split 7"
(Hell Comes Home)
Third instalment in the 12-part split 7" series by the Irish label, Hell Comes Home. Dephosphorus offer a sinister blend of sludgey blackened metal. The opening burst of the track is a sludgey riff reminiscent of old Black Cobra and in truth, taking the track as a whole there are distinct similarities with New Orleans sludgers Soilent Green, with the mixture of Eyehategod's sabbathian riffs and the trade off with grindcore, death metal speed riffs and gut busting vocals. This is no Greek tragedy. Talk about a contrast, Great Falls couldn't be more different than Desphosphorus, but they are no less brilliant. What we have is violent noise rock choc full of angular riffs and a tone and quality not too dissimilar from The Jesus Lizard and Cows, but with more aggression and menace. The song has a stop start quality to it, imagine learning to drive for the first time and jolting the car forward time after time. What it lacks in fluidity, it more than makes up for in raw aggression, with staccato jarring riffs and bucket loads of attitude and a David Yow-esque vocal but with deranged screamed vocals to top it off. Totally original and totally brilliant. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. A very limited amount available separately from the Hell Comes Home "Volume 1" 12x7" box set.

SUMA / ULTRAPHALLUS Split 7"
(Hell Comes Home)
Second instalment in the 12-part split 7" series by the Irish label, Hell Comes Home. Ultraphallus are an experimental sludge-doom band from Belgium and are well known to those who follow the label Riot Season ("Sowberry Hagan" was released by the British label in 2011, with a special guest, Eugene Robinson from Oxbow). The Swedish band Suma are not on the roster of Riot Season but they would fit perfectly. Suma opens this second split with "Geisteskrank", a devastating surge of hypnotic drony, noisy metal possessing the filth of sludge, the distorted pounding heaviness of doom but lead by the crushing power of a storm, huge, slow and tremendously fast at the same time. Vocals are scarily gurgling while being overwhelmed by the waves of noise. With track "Young Bones" Ultraphallus are less deadly aggressive than Suma but they adopt the same repetitive rhythmic style for the leading riffing and build up a further infectious dose of very heavy, dull, dynamic, hypnotic noise-rock that will end too early. This is a split that you'll slam on your turntable for life, easily... Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. A very limited amount available separately from the Hell Comes Home "Volume 1" 12x7" box set.

THROAT / BLACK SUN Split 7"
(Hell Comes Home)
Tenth instalment in the 12-part split 7" series by the Irish label, Hell Comes Home. Throat spits forth "Anal Paranoid", recorded in the same sessions as the "Pee" 7" and the split 7" with Fleshpress. Reverb, overdrive, smashed cymbals, paranoia, saliva and sweat - what did you expect? Black Sun storms through "Crawling Like a Leech", a ton-of-bricks in the form of violent and metallic post-hardcore combined with their obvious love for Swans and the like. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. A very limited amount available separately from the Hell Comes Home "Volume 1" 12x7" box set.

KOWLOON WALLED CITY "Container Ships" LP 16€
(Brutal Panda Records)
San Francisco's Kowloon Walled City unveil their sophomore album "Container Ships". Their first record in three years was recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA by guitarist/vocalist Scott Evans. Led by poignant guitar melodies soaked in malaise and a powerful rhythm section, "Container Ships" peels back the skin and brandishes both the beautiful and ugly sides of existence. Elements of sludge, post-rock and indie rock coalesce to create a truly unforgettable, heavy as an oil tanker listening experience. The album is packaged in a gatefold jacket and features the stunning photography of Roy Zipstein. Second press black vinyl limited to 200 copies out of 300 copies in total.

ZOZOBRA "Savage Masters" MLP 15€
(Brutal Panda Records)
The brainchild of Caleb Scofield (Cave In, Old Man Gloom), Zozobra formed in 2006 and quickly released two crushing full-lengths of atmospheric sludge metal, "Harmonic Tremors" (2007) and "Bird of Prey" (2008). Now five years later, the band has re-emerged with "Savage Masters", their most aggressive and straightforward release to date. Bursting out the gate with a bold, determined purpose, "Savage Masters" is an unrelenting fury of post-hardcore ferocity and sludge-tinged amplifier crunch. This release, featuring long-time Cave In bandmates Adam McGrath (guitars) and J.R. Conners (drums), proves once and for all that Zozobra are a veritable force to be reckoned with. "Savage Masters" was produced and recorded by Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Pelican) and contains stunning artwork by English alchemist Glyn Smyth (Unearthly Trance, Wolves in the Throne Room, Cough). The record comes in a matte coated jacket and includes a 2-sided insert. Black vinyl, limited to 250 copies out of 700 copies in total.

XADDAX "Counterclockwork" Tape
(Stoned to Death/Obsedante!)
Nick Sakes has spent time in a handful of fantastic bands over the years, with the likes of Dazzling Killmen, Colossamite and Sicbay. Sakes' commitment to producing pinpoint sharp, abrasive, and mentally stimulating music throughout is something that is hard to question. With that said, Sakes has turned up with a new project to get excited about called Xaddax. A duo that features drummer Chrissy Rosettie, who has spent time with My Name is Rar-Rar. In a lot of ways Xaddax is a brand new beast compared to Sakes' previous bands. The only connecting factor on the duos debut "Counterclockwork" is the fact that it's noisy edged rock with a very precise set of arrangements from track to track. The sound is one of such density that really doesn't compare to much of anything in his past discography. Thanks to drummer Rosettie and the plethora of sounds that she can achieve through her electroacoustic drum set-up, the mathematical sharpness Sakes often provides is handed a great foil which turns the bands sound into a battle between straightforward aggressiveness/riffs and a surrounding looseness of otherworldly noises. To say that their sound is largely influenced of warped/alien sound is probably not too far fetched. It's certainly a step into a weirder side of things, but it's a side that proves to be a welcome addition to a long line of solid output. This is the European cassette edition of "Counterclockwork", released on two Czech labels. Blue tapes in various coloured cases with xerox sleeves. Limited and numbered edition of 66 copies.

DIRTDRINKER "s/t" LP 13€
(Black Lake Records)
Finally the debut album from Dirtdrinker, the Aberdeen, Scotland based two-piece inhabiting the grey area between noise rock and the (good) off-kilter end of metallic hardcore, not too far from the likes of KEN Mode, Deadguy or Kiss It Goodbye. Dirtdrinker definitely have a knack for dynamic yet aggressive songs and smeared on top are the filthy vocals which at times reach the intensity levels of Steve Austin/Today is the Day. AMERICAN HERITAGE "Sedentary" LP 15€
(Solar Flare Records/Prototype Records)
American Heritage roars and rages on "Sedentary", the Chicago quartet's new album steamrolling the senses with brash polyrhythmic riffs, vitriolic punk attitude and destructive seasick rhythms. "Sickening Rebellion" rolls with a calculated hardcore intensity, while "WWDHD" mounts from chugging ominous distortion into an epic metallic explosion. American Heritage preserve the abrasive amalgam of technicality and brutality they're known for, while refining it. You'll feel the sonic gut punch of songs like "City of God" and "Sickening Rebellion", which bruise, batter and bludgeon brilliantly. Without a full-time bass player during recording (Bocek joined the band post-recording), the band collaborated with a different musician for the bass track on each song. On the incendiary and invasive "Fetal Attraction", Mastodon's Bill Kelliher provides bass, a guitar solo and a little personal flare. Shellhamer laughs, "He does that "Eat my fuck" thing at the end of the song. He went way overboard with the bass and guitar solo, and it was ripping." Other explosive playing comes from Black Cobra's Rafa Martinez on "Morbid Angle" and Sanford Parker (Buried at Sea, Minsk) on "Vessels/Vassals". The entire collection has become even more dynamically heavy as a result. American Heritage will never cease pummeling, and "Sedentary" is the proof. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 200 copies out of 300 copies in total.

SOFY MAJOR "Idolize" LP 15€
(Solar Flare Records/No List Records)
"Idolize" is the second album by the French noise rock/metal power trio Sofy Major. Fall 2012: the band flies overseas to record "Idolize" in Brooklyn at the Translator Audio studio with producer Andrew Schneider (Unsane, Keelhaul, Converge…). October 29th, 2012: hurricane Sandy destroys the studio in its entirety, annihilating all the recording gear as well as the band's equipment. The loss is 100%. After hanging around in NY for a few days like three French hobos in America, thanks to the support of the Brooklyn indie music scene, the recording finally takes place with the precious help of Dave Curran (Unsane, Pigs) and their producer's perseverance. After 3 weeks of recording, the band embarks on their first US tour. A trip melting ultimate mysticism, stupidity, bad karma and shitty disaster B-movies without any special effects. "Idolize" represents two years of work, including 150 gigs on two continents and around 20 countries. It sums up various influences from metal to punk rock and 90's noise rock and hardcore. A mix of toxic sludge, stale beer, shattered dreams, hard work and perseverance. Black vinyl in super stylish sleeve with insert and digital download coupon. Limited edition of 200 copies out of 500 copies in total.

FAKING "Greatest Hits Demo" Tape
(V4 Records)
Faking is a harsh and heavy noise-rock trio from Philadelphia that bridges the gap between the brooding filth of Amphetamine Reptile Records and the angular aggression of Dischord Records, spanning influences from the mathy side of the Chicago scene to the most abrasive output of Seattle. Giant pounding drums, crackling bass throb, and crunchy buzz saw guitar riffs that bleed into reverb drenched seasick leads create the foundation while vocals holler and moan about shitty people doing shitty things. Picking up where their Reptilian Records released previous bands left off are local ugly music veterans Jeff Bowne from Günna Vahm on guitar/vocals and Phil Schorn from Günna Vahm/Midiron Blast Shaft on drums, along with Mark Diehl from Ex Rev on bass. Pro-duplicated cassette in full colour j-card. Limited edition of 100 copies.

WAR BRIDES "Burden" MLP 14€
(War Brides)
War Brides is a four piece post hardcore/noise rock band from Chicago, Illinois who formed in September of 2010. War Brides play a killer style of noise rock tinged post hardcore that takes the fury of bands such as Breather Resist or Engineer and combines that with a heavy dose of AmRep style noise rock couple with the noise punk leanings of Shellac. This combination of sounds makes for a dynamic, sludgey, and ferocious listen. "Burden" is War Brides' latest six song LP, which was self released by the band. HAWKS "Rat Talker" 7"
(Army of Bad Luck Records)
Hawks' "Rat Talker" 7" contains two new tracks wrapped up in a slick little package. Shit... this thing could've been called "Slick Little Package". The songs are a further exploration of the dark rock found peppered throughout their last LP, "Pushover". "Rat Talker" and "Smile" each demonstrate a reserved and calculated approach to their previous more manic material. Hawks seem to have found their stride and "Smile" highlights them at their best. Mixed and recorded by Kyle Spence of Harvey Milk. Grey vinyl in black/white sleeve with lyrics insert and digital download coupon. Limited edition of 300 copies.

THE SUNGLASSES "s/t" 10" 10€
(Army of Bad Luck Records)
The previous outing from the Atlanta based The Sunglasses was their LP "Bad Happy" on Trans Ruin Records a couple or so years back. The Sunglasses seem to create a brand of noise rock that feels and sounds like a hardcore band playing in slow motion and somewhat out of sync with a vocalist that carries on regardless of what is backing him. At times it feels like if the rest of the band just stopped playing and walked off, he'd probably continue rambling in the in and out of consciousness style that he puts forth here. The mixture of down tuned and slowed but obtuse riffing sort of resembles the type of sludgy metallic dirge that Kiss it Goodbye often churned out, but without the incredible sense of self-loathing and hatred towards anything and everything. With nine songs squeezed onto this thing the songs are all relatively brief, all of kind of blurring together. Multicoloured marble vinyl in full colour sleeve with xeroxed booklet and digital download coupon. Limited edition of 300 copies.

Following their self-titled 7" released last year, the Danish bastards Bottom Feeder now present their debut full length, "Grinding Teeth". There's an obvious aura of the likes of Iron Monkey, Grief and Buzzov*en hanging over Bottom Feeder, but since that type of filthy sound is slowly becoming extinct, there's nothing wrong with wearing your influences on your sleeve. The slow, dragging sludge sound presented on the band's 7" is still here, combined with dirtier and faster "southern-styled" sound. Black vinyl in black/white gatefold sleeve. BOTTOM FEEDER "s/t" 7"
(Raw Birth Records)
Raw, unrelenting sludge that delivers a severe aural beating lasting just over 11 minutes, leaving a taste for violence in your mouth. Following up a sold out cassette demo, Bottom Feeder (out of Copenhagen) deliver a primal dose of sludge that is reminiscent of Iron Monkey, Grief and Noothgrush. Not wasting one second, these degenerates dive right in and smother you with thick licks and blistering vocals while violently beating skins behind it all. These songs are barely enough to keep your teeth grinding and fists clenched but a killer debut EP from a band that is just beginning to creep out of the shadows of Europe's sludge scene. Stolen Kidneys from Oulu have been around for a few years now and after a few CD and tape EPs, the band presents their debut vinyl release. The sound of Stolen Kidneys is a hybrid of heavy, hardcore tinged crunch with plenty of dissonance and groove, making the band ear-candy for not only hardcore/punk enthusiasts, but also those into the more apocalyptic post-hardcore acts and even the heavier side of noise rock. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with black/white lyrics insert.

TORSO. "Giallo" 7"
(Torso.)
Truly adventurous vinyl debut from this Finnish drum-and-bass duo actually consisting of two brothers. As the rhythm-based line-up might suggest, the band's songs are very rhythm oriented and often toy around with rather quirky rhythmic patterns, but they luckily restrain themselves from going to such extremes where you need a calculator just to listen to a record. Instead, Torso. shares a similar approach with the likes of The Melvins and Lightning Bolt in the sense that the song is king and even if the band's arsenal of instruments might be stripped down, the sound is always filled with nice detail. Red vinyl in beautiful full colour sleeve with insert and digital download coupon.

No, it's not what you're thinking. It doesn't sound like a mixture between Boris and Iron Maiden. Maybe a mixture between Iron Lung and the Melvins song "Boris" wouldn't miss the mark as much. This is the debut 7" from the Helsinki-based Iron Boris, a three-piece (vocals, drums, guitar) plowing through six quick songs wandering somewhere between violent old school hardcore and dissonant noise rock sound. Admittedly a vague description, but these cats manage to avoid strict categorization exceptionally well. You'll just need to hear it. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve.
