BUCK GOOTER "Witch Molecules" LP 15€
(X-Mist Records/Beau Travail)
Primal industrial blues, nihilist punk, minimalist noise rock duo from Harrisonburg, Virginia. Fourth full-length release by this furious duo and it's another challenging masterpiece! Minimal and nightmarish sounds mixed up with alienated references of blues and rock patterns. Think of Sam McPheeters meeting Killdozer after a Wolf Eyes concert. Or Black Flag meets Merzbow. Chrome meets Flipper. Black Humor meets The Residents. Cramps meet Shorty. Dan Melchior meets Savage Republic. Urinals meet Throbbing Gristle. Abner Jay meets Arab on Radar? Who knows... Or just citing Maximum Rock'n'Roll: "You haven't heard anything that sounds like Buck Gooter in a long time!" Whatever. It is nothing less than outstanding contemporary music. Recorded by Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio, DC. Cover artwork by Asa Osbourne (Lungfish, Zomes). Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with black/white lyrics insert.

VAZ "Dying to Meet You" LP 15€
(X-Mist Records)
An oddity all around, Vaz's "Dying to Meet You" is a gruesome piece of work, sounding like a hyper-ventilating Depeche Mode with a knack for writing disturbing lyrics about pain and slipping into other dimensions unfit for the human body and soul. Irritated at whatever, Vaz is an edgy and nervous duo comprised of Paul on vocals and guitar and Jeff on drums (both of Hammerhead fame!), making music that can be compared to the event of an expensive oil painting ruined by scalding water - beautiful, yet so miserable. This is some seriously moody stuff. With a total running time of roughly 30 minutes, this still may be a little too much to take all in one shot. The songs are pushy and non-stop, twitching and coughing under an easement in the Los Angeles rain. Songs like "They've Won," "Drive-by Swordfight," and "White World of Death," are edgy little ditties that will remind you of the first time you got your thumb stuck in a Chinese finger trap; the anxiety will make you grind your teeth into little nubs. Mysterious and atmospheric with cluster of groaning vacuum guitars and very tight drumming, "Dying to Meet You" is a highly original, sleep deprived journey through the concrete jungle netherworld. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with lyrics insert. Extremely limited re-press of 110 copies.

CD:

BEIGE EAGLE BOYS "You're Gonna Get Yours" CD 10€
(Reptilian Records)
Recalling the blown out syrupy sweet distortion of the Cherubs and the upper Midwest scuzz of the Bastards and Hammerhead, or while we're at it, all the finest cherry picked grime from AmRep, Touch & Go and Trance Syndicate, Detroit's Beige Eagle Boys throw the rock gears into a mid nineties noise rock reverse, gargling nuts and bolts and gravel and then flossing with guitar strings left over in Tom Hazelmyer's garage. But this is not a tribute to a dead scene. This is the face of noise rock now: even more raw, hardcore, weird, and loud. On "You're Gonna Get Yours", the trio's debut album, they blast out a quick and potent rust belt racket with all three gents hollering over top. Every studio meter red-lined, every tube amp threatened with exhaustion, all three larynxes threatened with whatever the hell happens to larynxes after this kind of abuse. Ten songs done the right kind of wrong way, and all of it iced off with a distorted, up the ass cover of Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry".

CUTTHROATS 9 "Dissent" CD 10€
(Reptilian Records)
Cutthroats 9 are back!!! After leaving New York behind, this time for good, Chris Spencer of Unsane decided to bring Cutthroats 9 back from hiatus, recruiting the original drummer Will Carroll (Death Angel) and former -(16)- bassist Tony Baumeister to the ranks. Musically, "Dissent" continues where the "Anger Management" 10" left off. Violent noise rock with a blues-ier approach than before, much thanks to Spencer's slide guitar antics. "Dissent" is a much awaited release for sure and a perfect launch for Chris Spencer's new label, Lamb Unlimited. CD edition on Reptilian Records.

MEMBRANE "Reflect Your Pain" LP 14€
(Basement Apes Industries/Blind Prod)
Membrane make a living from working with noise. From traditional ventures to more obscure times, creating compositions and soundscapes sounding close to epic ensembles. Welcome to their cruel world, namely "Reflect Your Pain", their fifth album to date, enhanced with pounding patterns as the rhythmic basis goes, and brewing new ideas, noise-mongering for life. That should sound extremely obvious that pain is becoming pleasure as you go through it. "Reflect your pain", outrageously made for master and slaves. Black/grey splatter vinyl in black/grey sleeve.

CHOKEBORE "Anything Near Water" LP 17€
(Vicious Circle)
Long awaited vinyl reissue of "Anything Near Water", the second album by Chokebore, coinciding with the band's 20th anniversary. Formed in Honolulu, Hawaii in the early 90s, Chokebore were the innovators of the then-emerging sadcore sound in indie rock. "Anything Near Water" was originally released on Amphetamine Reptile Records in 1995 and along with their debut album presents Chokebore's undeniably most classic material. SHANNON WRIGHT "In Film Sound" LP 17€
(Vicious Circle)
After thirteen years and seven LPs as a solo artist, Shannon Wright has returned with what could be her fiercest record to date. Crashing out of the gates with the aptly titled ''Noise Parade'' Wright immediately reintroduces listeners to her trademark cutting guitars with a distinctive bittersweet fury that jumps from the speakers. "In Film Sound" bursts with urgent immediacy, a kind of direct intention-into-thought that's as raw as it is focused. It's an album where your favorite track can change with each listen, be it the easy sway of ''The Caustic Light'' that thrusts into a chaotic attack of atonal guitar and rhythm, or the gorgeous piano dirge of ''Bleed'' overflowing with chest pounding wonder and loss. ''In Film Sound'' features an esteemed rhythm section consisting of Shipping News members Kyle Crabtree (drums) and Todd Cook (bass) and was recorded this fall in Louisville, KY by Kevin Ratterman and mastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Services. It is Wright's first new LP for Brooklyn's Ernest Jenning Record Co. after a decade of work with esteemed Chicago imprint Touch and Go Records and a self-released 2010 LP. Wright has been out of the spotlight in America since her long time label shuttered, but in that time she has been active overseas where an adoring European audience has supported her from the start, and collaborations with cult composer Yann Tiersen have only increased her international profile. Wright's songwriting has always been unflinchingly honest while untainted by the whims of current trends and her legendary guitar playing continues to shine through, often heavier than ever. The intensity of her voice refuses to let up these days either, and her sense of harmonic movement and rhythmic patterns often hints at something unsettling going on, a dangerous and explosive feeling that shrouds and ultimately defines "In Film Sound". Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with digital download coupon.

TANTRUM "Twisted in Anguish" CD
(Vicious Circle)
True classic of the French 90s noise rock scene! Formed in 1993, Tantrum are (were?) a post-hardcore/noise rock band from Montpellier, France and their second full-length album, "Twisted in Anguish" sees the band in their most noise rock form before shifting towards a heavier, even metallic sound on future releases. Released in 1997, this album still packs a nice punch and a reminder of a young and vibrant European noise rock scene.

PÄIVITYS 16.7.2015

VINYYLIT:

ART OF BURNING WATER "The Humiliation Process" 7"
(Swarm of Nails/Dead Chemists Records)
UK's best kept secret is back with a new ep, available on 7 inch vinyl. Five new raw tracks, between grindcore and noisy punk, that push further the darkness and the violence developed on their previous full length, "This disgrace". No compromise. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve. Limited edition of 250 copies.
http://artofburningwater.bandcamp.com

ART OF BURNING WATER / ISOLATION TANK Split 7"
(SuperFi Records/Survivor Guilt Records/Vetala Records)
Isolation Tank is a duo that make that power violence stuff but are head and shoulders above a lot of the generic, jokey slop being churned out at the moment. Jack and Sam actually utilise discernible, catchy riffs and lots of cool time changes that keep it interesting. Think Hatred Surge and Iron Lung. Art of Burning Water continue their mission to annoy all and sundry with their slightly faster take on their usual off-kilter noise rock with definite hardcore leanings, like a sped up Keelhaul partying with Motörhead. Three short ones from them also. Black vinyl black/white wraparound sleeve. Limited edition of 250 copies.
http://artofburningwater.bandcamp.com

DIRTDRINKER "s/t" 7"
(Black Lake Records/Fuck Life Records)
Dirtdrinker are a new Scottish two piece from Aberdeen. From the name alone, you'd be guessing loud ugly sludge. It's a two thirds right guess - it is enticingly loud and ugly, but this is of a more hardcore/noise rock ouevre. This self titled three track is an impressive showcase, more so because, like the best two pieces (Big Business, Beehoover, Black Cobra) it sounds bigger than the sum of its members. This is great gig music for some above-the-bar room toilet size venue - aggressively full on, with bold riffs and a slightly gritty production that fits perfectly. Opener "Plaguescape" is probably the highlight, but the belligerent following "Wastewalker" doesn't mess around either and "Husks" wraps it all well, although the sample which concludes matters, a generally lefty rant, sours the ending a little - nothing wrong with the politics, but it seems a bit cliched. Dirtdrinker are one to look out for, for sure. Seeking comparisons, maybe Botch could be mentioned, but then maybe not that technical, it's hardcore for sure and definitely not on the looser punk side. KEN Mode are definitely a band that comes to mind and there's always a way to compare to fit Unsane into the comparisons, if only for the sheer amount of violence in the sound. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve with lyrics insert. Limited and numbered edition of 100 copies.

GODSTOPPER "What Matters" LP 13€
(Insulin Addicted Records/Absurd Exposition/Anthems of the Undesirable/City 17 Records/Milgram Records)
Godstopper is a Toronto four-piece formed by Mike Simpson (Column of Heaven) playing an amalgamation of sludge and noise rock bringing to mind acts like Today is the Day, Khanate, and The Melvins without eschewing notions of melody or pop song structure. This album is heavy, creepy, and unlike just about anything else going on in DIY music today. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. Limited edition of 500 copies.

PANZRAM / SHOPPERS Split 7"
(Feeble Minds / IFB Records)
Panzram and Shoppers come together for a noisy rock/punk parade on this little platter. Syracuse NY's Shoppers play the catchiest noise drenched punk you've ever heard, totally drawing you in with riffs that just remain in your head for days. All that backed up by great vocal work – haunting and full of attitude. Panzram returns from Ft. Myers, Florida to dish out another dose of mean and ugly non-traditional HC laced with hints of post-punk. If bands like Pollution, Walls, and Drugs of Faith are your thing, you will be right at home with Panzram's offerings. Black vinyl in 2 color silkscreened sleeve. Limited edition of 200 copies.

VINYYLIT:

CREMATION LILY "Fires Frame the Silhouette" LP 17€
(Alter)
Cremation Lily is the project of UK based Z. Zsigo. For the past 5 years Zsigo has been consistently working under most people's radars with his distinctly personal take on power electronics, developing a modest cult following and a respectable catalog of releases through his Strange Rules label. In 2012 the project was brought to the attention of Steve Underwood from Harbinger Sound who subsequently released the "Fertility Servant" 7" and the project began to gather a more visible live presence thanks to gigs with the likes of Consumer Electronics, Con-Dom, Natural Assembly and on the east coast of America too with Alberich and Âmes Sanglantes. Now Alter is pleased to present the first long form vinyl collection of Cremation Lily material – "Fires Frame the Silhouette" is compiled mostly from reworked and remixed tracks from previous cassette releases. All pieces are thematically linked by a time and place in Zsigo's life and bringing them together creates a record of masterful atmosphere which ranks high in the industrial / PE canon and closes a chapter in the project's timeline. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 300 copies.

DAMIEN DUBROVNIK "First Burning Attraction" LP 17€
(Alter)
Formed in 2009, Damien Dubrovnik is the Danish electronic duo of Christian Stadsgaard (Sarah's Charity) and Loke Rahbek (Sexdrome, Var, Lust For Youth), founders of the Copenhagen-based record label Posh Isolation. In their day-job as label managers, Stadsgaard and Rahbek have been instrumental in establishing the city's prolific and exciting noise/punk community and outgrowing their humble beginnings in noise/industrial culture by attracting a cult/fanatical worldwide following. Working together as Damien Dubrovnik, they have published work across two LPs, a handful of sought-after cassette releases, compilations and notched up numerous performances throughout Europe and Scandinavia. Their third LP, "First Burning Attraction", draws explicitly from DIY minimal synth traditions and the canon of European industrial music, resulting in the strongest manifestation of their sound so far. Consisting of six powerful and varied tracks, the album features more of the brooding synth parts and ominous bass throbs that dominated the highlights of previous LP "Europa Dagbog - Europa Diary", yet it feels tenser and more atmospheric due to the application of new acoustic-based sound sources, primitive bass pulses and more disciplined dynamics. Rahbek's vocals, which were previously guttural and wild, appear more restrained here, giving the tracks an alluring air of ambiguity and suggestiveness - no undirected aggression, but something more thoughtful and introspective instead. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve.
www.soundcloud.com/alterstock/damien-dubrovnik-first-burning

DAMIEN DUBROVNIK "Patterns of Penetration" 7"
(Alter)
Damien Dubrovnik are Loke Rahbek (Lust For Youth, Var, Croatian Amor) and Christian Stadsgaard, two Copenhagen residents who are known for running the highly respected and prolific Posh Isolation label. "Patterns of Penetration" is a new EP which comes relatively hot off the heels of a USA and UK tour with Helm and their first new material since last year's Alter debut, the "First Burning Attraction" LP. Lead track and recent live staple "Penis Corset" is the most potent and pointed piece the duo have penned yet – the main body of the track is driven by a crude and primative rhythm made from an electronic bass pulse and blown out synth noise, punctuated by feedback and guttural vocals. The result is probably the closest the duo has ever come to creating something that fits the traditional "song" format yet fully retaining an industrial atmosphere that is consistent with previous releases. On the flip, title track "Patterns of Penetration" presents a calmer side of the duos work yet also finds them at their most complex and rich, sonically speaking, with a two note synth lead, spoken vocals and washes of analog tape noise. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve and insert. Limited edition of 400 copies.

DAMIEN DUBROVNIK "Vegas Fountain" LP 17€
(Alter/Posh Isolation)
"Vegas Fountain" is the new full length album from Copenhagen based industrial duo Damien Dubrovnik (aka Posh Isolation founders Loke Rahbek and Christian Stadsgaard). Since 2013's "First Burning Attraction" LP, Rahbek and Stadsgaard have continued to be consistently busy as label bosses but even more so as artists, performing more frequently worldwide and building a reputation for their fierce and powerful live show. It was during this time as well that the duo honed their craft in the studio and found a working rhythm where their live performance fed into the studio work and vice versa. Using this process to feed off the springboard of Rahbek's words and imagery, it not only helped shape a stronger state of equilibrium in the project but also allowed the duo to challenge themselves, both musically and emotionally, exploring concepts like relations, performance, sexuality and their breaking points. An element of this was teased with last years "Patterns of Penetration" single, but here it arrives full force with "Vegas Fountain" - Damien Dubrovnik's strongest work yet. In the first couple of minutes into opening track "On it's Double", you get a sense that things have moved forward artistically in Rahbek and Stadsgaard's world these past couple of years. The clear production breathes a subtlety into some of the sonics here that perhaps wasn't revealed through the murk on previous records, heightening a tension that at some points breaks and dissolves into something almost melancholic - evoked by the reflective landscapes of "Interior 2: See Water Glass" and "Interior 3: Matching Window Blinds". The attack remains however, with the punctuating saw toothed bass notes and screaming tones of "Interior 1: Upper Lip" (considered "problematic" to cut by the mastering engineer), and the finale of the title track which has all the drama and explosive euphoria of their live show. Black vinyl in full colour outer and inner sleeve.

HA DET BRA "Societea for Two" LP 15€
(Geenger Records)

HELM "Olympic Mess" 2LP 22€
(PAN)
London-based experimentalist Luke Younger (a.k.a Helm) returns to PAN with "Olympic Mess", a record born of destructive practice, competing desires, and troubled optimism. Where his previous effort, 2014's "The Hollow Organ," dealt in dense, distressed sonics, "Olympic Mess" is Younger responding to a period spent engaged with loop-based industrial music, dub techno, and balearic disco. These musical references, all of which can induce hypnotic states and feelings of euphoria, inform ten evocative aural landscapes which unfurl over the course of an hour and act almost as a counterpoint to the turmoil that spawned them. "It's about exploring a perverse desire to pull the rug from under yourself, and the struggle to achieve a healthy equilibrium between one's personal and artistic lives," Younger says. "Dealing with the problematic consequences of pushing your own limits, forming and dissolving relationships, transient lifestyles, physical and mental exhaustion, excess, and other kinds of personal chaos". Crafted using an array of heavily processed samples, found sound and electroacoustics, personal conflict manifests in "I Exist in a Fog" and "Outerzone 2015," where visceral noise disintegrates into veiled, ambient strata. The disquieting crescendos of "The Evening in Reverse" and "Fluid Cloak" offer no such relief, while the title track and "Don’t Lick the Jacket" are mineral, multilayered abstractions twisting around a brittle pulse. Following a period of extensive touring throughout the States and Europe, which included 20 dates in support of Danish punk group Iceage, "Olympic Mess" was recorded in London, New York and Berlin by Sean Ragon, Luke Younger and John Hannon. Two black 140g vinyls in full colour sleeve with digital download coupon.

UNIFORM "Perfect World" LP 17€
(Alter)
Uniform formed in New York City in late 2013 when old friends Ben Greenberg (Hubble, The Men, Pygmy Shrews) and Michael Berdan (York Factory Complaint, Drunkdriver, Believer/Law) realized they lived on the same street. Their impulsive collaboration quickly yielded "Our Blood / Of Sound Mind and Body" single. The six tracks that comprise the equally abrasive but more refined "Perfect World" have been coming together between tours and work ever since. The music that Greenberg and Berdan conjure up under the Uniform monicker is immediate, aggressive, and even primal in form, but it plumbs untold depths. Berdan's venomous voice mines deeply personal themes of resentment, regret, reflection and addiction over the hum of Greenberg's almost impossibly disciplined guitar, bass synth, and drum machine lines. Greenberg uses the word "templatized" to describe their approach to writing songs for Uniform. "There's this set bunch of gear to create sounds, and it only creates sound through a certain process, or within its own limitations," Greenberg said. "The goal of song writing is to see how many different kinds of sounds you can get from the same basic process and machine." On "Perfect World", that machine is firing on all cylinders. The guitar is run through a cheap '80s preamp marketed to metal kids. The drum machine is equally no-frills, an Akai XR20 that Greenberg says "most people wouldn't want to keep around." These humble components are combined with noisy synth and Berdan's profound howling to form something much greater. Post-punk, synthpunk, and industrial traditions are borrowed from as needed, but the constraints placed on the process mean the result is unique to Uniform. Berdan describes his lyrics as the consequence of feeling "so full of pain, confusion, deep selfishness, and general animosity that you make some horrible mistakes and have to learn how to forgive yourself for them." "Perfect World" feels like the sum of all that pain and confusion, but it also feels like the catharsis. Black vinyl in black/white outer and inner sleeve. Limited edition of 500 copies.

BUMMER "Spank" 10" 15€
(High Dive Records)
After a string of solid digital only releases, Kansas City's Bummer presents their vinyl debut in the form of the "Spank" 10". "Spank" contains six cuts (a couple or so having made earlier appearances) of rock that does such a good job in marrying the riff heavy crunchy nature of 90's alternative/grunge and the type of noisy dirty shit that continually stands the test of time. Bummer have been incredibly consistent with the approach from release to release, keeping with a guitar tone that barely ever wavers from "wide open", it gives them the appearance of a band with some serious force behind them despite being a trio, filling every ounce of space with the type of ringing buzz that fans of Tad, Fudge Tunnel, or even the more recent Roomrunner would come to appreciate. Black 120g vinyl in black/white silkscreened sleeve with full colour insert and digital download coupon. Limited edition of 550 copies. Please excuse the price, shipping and expensive wholesale rates are a killer, but so is this record!!!

FOSSILS "Flesh Hammer" LP 14€
(Indisciplinarian)
Hailing from Denmark, the two piece instrumental noise rock-duo Fossils is one kick-ass combo rarely seen these days. With one bass and a drum kit Fossils use their simple setup to bring forward a storm of energetic, punky and yet unpredictable rock music. Having released one full length called "Meat Rush" in 2011 and the live EP "The Veal Thing" in 2012, playing several shows in Denmark with acts such as Liturgy, ZU, Iceage and Health as well as touring the US, Germany and Iceland, the duo has stirred up a strong reputation as a powerful live band, ready to kick the audience in their head with a firm musical boot of metal and punk infused rock music. As Chris Dowden from the American band Landfill beautifully describes it after witnessing the dynamic duo live in Houston, Texas: "Fossils burned everything I know about music to ashes and pissed on the ashes. It was a great show." Now Fossils have unleashed their second full length, the short, sweet and genuinely pissed off "Flesh Hammer." And what a hammer indeed. This fiery record consists of 20 intense minutes and 10 precise, noisy and ever-entertaining no-bullshit pieces of music produced by Danish sound-enigma Q (Beta Satan, Entombed a.o.) and created by a band that has refined their trademarks: Short creative bursts of pushing yet complex rhythms combined with thunderous riffs striving to create and environment of groove and headbanging as well as unpredictability and surprise. Always interesting and always animating to bang that head, Fossils pour out their unique brand of instrumental, noisy rock'n'roll firmly rooted in punk, metal and hardcore. "Flesh Hammer" was recorded in the band's rehearsal room during five days in July under an almost unbearable hot summer. The band had decided that at all songs needed to be recorded live with no overdubs and only complete takes was acceptable. The idea was to preserve the band's live energy and to cut to the core in regard to sound and expression. No unnecessary effects, just a wall of sound consisting of bass and drums. The production should be simple but massive, like when Fossils perform live. As unique and mad as Fossils are musically, they are visually likewise in an absurd class of their own. The artwork for "Flesh Hammer" is a photograph of the band's logo and the album title laser engraved in original American Beef Jerky (a salted and dried beef meat) done by a sinister tech-wiz in an abandoned Philadelphia factory after midnight. And thereby Fossils continue their tradition for incorporating meat in either titles, visuals and artwork as done on previous releases. Tasty! Black vinyl (limited to 200 copies out of 300 copies in total) in full colour sleeve with insert.

FOSSILS "The Meating" Tape
(Indisciplinarian)
On their new EP "The Meating", Fossils capture the vocal interpretations of seven tracks from their first album "Meat Rush" as performed by various singers at the "Flesh Hammer" release show in March 2014. Originally thought as a one-off at the release event, the performers were subsequently brought into the studio to document their contributions to the original tracks. The result is "The Meating", a highly seductive abnormalia with high energy vocal, noise and poetry contributions for all to enjoy while waiting for the next instrumental Fossils album to arrive in the beginning of 2016. Black tape with full colour j-card and digital download coupon. The red and black cover versions are limited to 100 copies respectively.

REGLER "Regel #1" LP 15€
(8MM Records)
Regler is the killing new duo of Mattin (Billy Bao et al) and Anders "Drajan" Bryngelsson of Brainbombs/No Balls: it makes sense that Mattin would forge an alliance with Brainbombs as outside of Billy Bao they have been responsible for some of the most reprehensibly crude/extreme redux of contemporary rock'n'roll, reducing three chord punk plukes to ominous monochord minimalism cut with dopey sociophathic teen yucks and presenting the most wretched and degraded form of psych/rock/metal this side of an unholy amalgam of Pärson Sound, AC/DC and Merzbow. Here Mattin pushes the whole deal into distorted gridlock with two side long pieces, the first of which uses classic d-beat strategies combined with post-Lou Reed single chord amplifier worship to produce a thrifty wall of pulsating rock noise, crossing the dancing hallucinatory microtones of a Maryanne Amacher with the sludge of primo-Sabbath and the endless ascension style of your favourite Scandinavian drone/metal commune. Wall destroying. Over on the flip the duo apply corrosive 'dub' strategies to the same, with large blocks of erased sonics interrupted by occasional accidentals and signifiers of future rock form - the sound of a snare drum, a stray guitar harmonic - that proves silence is not only sexy, it's noisy as all hell. A massive, brain-erasing set of monomaniacal punk/avant rock violence from two of the loneliest braincells in strategic underground raunch. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve. Limited edition of 200 copies.

Some people find relief in celebrating their obsessions most deep and foul through music, and what a better way to share your dreams of rusty razor blades, cum stained polaroid collections and romantic encounters ending up in police investigations than through scuzzy noise rock. Sleiveen Hostess makes its debut with a six-song cassette jam-packed with filth similar to the unpleasant sounds of Brainbombs, Drunkdriver or even Rectal Hygienics. Professionally duplicated metallic gold tape with black on-shell printing and full colour j-card. Limited edition of 100 copies.

VINYYLIT:

BLACKLISTERS "Adult" LP 15€
(A Tant Rêver Du Roi)
Leeds is at capacity for noise rock bands right now, considering the queue of Touch & Go loving, feedback touting bands cropping up around the place, be it in pocket scenes like Chunk or on higher planes of esteem where Blacklisters exist. At this point, the vowel-censoring BLKLSTRS have been going for a good seven odd years, and now they're back with "Adult", a misanthropic and angular offering that mainly exists so a man can shout. Same as it ever was. "Adult" is, as ever for Blacklisters, a scheming record, one with little nuggets of build and melody that come apart like pieces trundling out of a jenga tower. "Cash Cow" relents with a bit of pretty guitar residue towards its end, while the band build "Big Ticker" like they're The Jesus Lizard doing post-rock, a marching drumbeat slowly being torn apart with rancid guitar riffs and their corresponding feedback. Ultimately, though, the best bits are the slow and uncompromising noise grooves, the bits where the clock hand stutters and the guitars stay the same and you could headbang forever. Such is "Weasle Bastard", whose hardcore-esque title actually acts as a red herring towards a more stilted Shellac piece of punk. In all honesty, Blacklisters sound like pretty much every Chicago noise band that already existed decades before them, pioneering slow builds, speak-sing screams and precision feedback. But hey: they still go in on this record. It's real loud, and apparently loudness doesn't go out of style. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with printed inner sleeve. French pressing.

CUNTZ "Force the Zone" LP 17€
(Homeless Records)
Third album for Melbourne's Cuntz. With Alex Macfarlane (Boomgates, Constant Mongrel, The Stevens) behind the desk again, Cuntz offer an even more bitter pill to swallow this time around in "Force the Zone". Always polarising critics, mainly due to the band's chosen moniker, those that didn't get the sardonic humour present missed out on fully enjoying "Aloha" and "Solid Mates", although one commenter nailed it when stating "…the informed listener can choose to either get it or be put off by the irreverence. Cuntz are dedicated to the hoon, and dedicated to supporting each other in their own respective hoons, and they don't give a fuck about what anyone thinks about that." Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with poster insert and digital download coupon. Limited edition of 500 copies.

HEADS. "s/t" LP 13€

Formed in 2014 by two native Germans and one wandering Australian, Heads. from Berlin collectively are like-minded individuals, drawing inspiration from the same filthy pools. With a straight-up, no-frills approach, and influences as diverse as The Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Rowland S. Howard, and by the likes of Young Widows and My Disco, this trio is angular, dark, articulate and much more than the sum of their parts. Black vinyl in special die-cut sleeve with printed inner sleeve and digital download code. Black vinyl limited to 400 copies out of 500 copies in total.

STEEL POLE BATH TUB "Tulip" LP 24/25€
(Sinister Torch Records)
[i]"Tulip" is Steel Pole Bath Tub at their best. A twisted noir detective story on a bad acid trip, it's sonically unrelenting, filled with foreboding and it unfolds over repeated listens. There is darkness here. A psychedelic juggernaut of careening guitar slammed up against a wall of brutal bass and punctuated by the bash and crash of toms and cymbals all with an eerie soundscape exploded over the top. This transcendent noise was on Steve Albini's “A List” in 1991 and it still feels fresh and avant. "Tulip's highlights – "Mercurochrome," "Soul Cannon," "Sister," "One Thick Second," and especially "The Scarlet" – announced a noise rock band that brought something new and worthwhile to the table." (Andrew Earles, Gimme Indie Rock : 500 Essential American Underground Rock Albums 1981-1996)
Painstakingly remastered by Bob Weston, Noah Landis and Mike Morasky from the original source tapes. 180g black or 150g bath tub porcelain white vinyl in lavish gatefold sleeve containing a digital download card and an 8-page booklet with notes from Noah Landis (Neurosis), Boner Records founder Tom Flynn, Chunklet's Henry Owings and Steel Pole Bath Tub."

BAGARRE GÉNÉRALE / YEAR OF NO LIGHT Split LP 13€

CHEYENNE 40 "Cinquante" LP 13€
(Tandori Records)
Off kilter, drugged out, dirgy, dark and spiralling pigfuck noise rock from Cheyenne 40, a five-piece from Lille, France. This has components of noise rock goodness with smatterings of experimental and industrial flickering psychosis. Imagine a burrito stuffed with Cop Shoot Cop, Distorted Pony, Brise-Glace, God Bullies, Swans, White Suns. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with A3 poster insert. Limited edition of 323 copies.

JESSICA93 "Who Cares" LP 13€
(Music Fear Satan)
Here is the first album by Jessica93, one-man band from the north area of Paris who manages to mix two closed worlds (the 80s and the 90s) with his music, a combination between coldwave and shoegaze. The result is a six tracks record with gloomy and heavy tunes but also dancing beats that can remind The Cure or Ride. Geoffroy Laporte builds his songs with many bass and guitars loops on dark beatboxes with a distant voice, sometimes in French and sometimes in English. The record delivers a very intriguing and original music but also reachable songs, that is the main interest of the Jessica93 music. Pink vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. Third pressing limited to 500 copies.

JESSICA93 "Rise" LP 13€
(Music Fear Satan)
''Rise'' is the second Jessica93 (shoegaze/punk/coldwave one man band from the northern suburbs of Paris) full lenght record just released one year after his first LP (''Who Cares'', named album of the year 2013 by the French New Noise Magazine). These seven tracks are more serious and darker than before with improvements on vocal parts. The final result can be compared to a mix of JK Broadrick projects (Godflesh and Jesu among others) and the darkest works of The Cure (''Pornography'' era). Releasing one record each year since 3 years, Geoffroy Laporte establishes himself as a studioholic musician with this brand new effort! Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with digital download coupon. Second pressing of 1000 copies.

REVOK "Bunt Auf Grau" LP 13€
(Music Fear Satan)
Digging deeper into the darkness and into the abyss of amplified musics with each new album, Revok are back with their third album "Bunt Auf Grau". Three years after "Grief is My New Moniker", the Parisian band delivers a record which imposes an absolute attention on its listeners, a kind of concept album in which all tracks make one with a fierce effectiveness. Still at the crossroads where post-rock, noise-rock and hardcore-punk come together, Revok remain on the original and iconoclastic path they took more than ten years ago. White vinyl in full colour sleeve with full colour inner sleeve. Limited edition of 500 copies.

DVD:

THE COLOR OF NOISE DVD+Blu-Ray 25€
(Robellion Films)
The Color of Noise is a full length documentary about the Artist Haze XXL (Tom Hazelmyer) and his notorious record label, Amphetamine Reptile Records. Throughout the 80's and 90's the label would achieve almost cult-like status for being adventurous and daring in the midst of a time where "safe" punk rock would rule the airwaves with a newly accepted style of music by the mainstream college goers, Grunge. Though with AmRep, not only a roster of the most outrageous performers would find a home, but also a legion of poster artists who broke all of the rules. Armed with a computer and an aesthetic of bold imagery, an artist would emerge in Hazelmyer. This is an American midwest story about a man who created his own path, far from the norm and how he brought along with him countless others who would achieve greatness by sheer proximity and participation. This is the true American underground. Featuring over 50 interviews from across the globe, unearthed live footage of the bands and stunning visuals masterfully edited together resulting in one of the years' best music documentaries. Premiered at Jack White's Third Man Records and taken on a US tour shortly afterwards, The Color of Noise has gained the reputation as one of the most important films about the Noise Rock era.

Special features:
- Optional running commentary with director Eric Robel and editor Michael Dimmitt.
- "The Enthusiasts, the Videographers of the 90's" featurette.
- "Cows or Haze?" the original 12 minute opening to The Color of Noise.
- "My Town" episode - 1992 interview with Tom Hazelmyer from public access TV.
- "AmRep does SubPop" - The story of possibly the rarest Frank Kozik designed 7" in existence.
- Full song CBGB performances by Cows, Hammerhead, Surgery, Unsane and Janitor Joe!
- AmRep poster gallery + 8 page booklet with a forward by Tom Hazelmyer and director Eric Robel.
- Original Kickstarter promo film & official trailer in HD.

Päivitys 21.12.2015

VINYYLIT:

GRIZZLOR "Cycloptic" 7"
(Hex Records)
Ever wondered what the Melvins would sound like if they were three times faster with a tenth of the attention span? New Haven trio, Grizzlor, are here to provide the answer... Each track is a barrage of filthy, lumbering Flipper-style bass lines and riffs that sound like Clutch on downers. Effected vocals and pitched down samples sit on top of this to add an acid-fried weirdness to proceedings, echoing crazy Texans, Butthole Surfers. Black/white sleeve with digital download coupon. Red and white vinyl limited to 150 copies each.
http://grizzlordestroys.bandcamp.com/album/cycloptic

GRIZZLOR / BARREN WOMB Split 7"
(Riotous Outburst)
Connecticut and Norway are a pretty long ways off from each other.  While the latter has a reputation as a birthing room for some of metal’s most influential babies, the former…well…not so much. However, the reality is that Connecticut (and really all of New England), while not on par just yet with Norway, has still been churning out some monster releases over the recent years.  One of the bands making some noise, both literally and figuratively is New Haven's Grizzlor.  On their most recent release, they decide to split a seven inch with their Norwegian, sonic equivalents, Barren Womb. The first two tracks on this split belong to Grizzlor. Opening with the absolutely thunderous, "At Sea" and followed up with the aptly titled "It's All Bullshit," Grizzlor do their best to simply bludgeon listeners with a broad array of power and discordance.  The opening track is a deftly-penned homage to the 90’s AmRep sound, where bands like Unsane and Today Is The Day ruled and ruled hard.  The follow-up is a battering wave of sonic fury, like being beaten with a blackjack after stumbling out of the local dive bar too drunk to defend yourself. Both tracks, really, are violent outbursts of bass and drum heavy cacophony, amplified by dissonant riff work. While Barren Womb may not be as purposefully scattered as Grizzlor, they certainly don't lack for the same vexation-leaning, riotous outbursts. They open their half of this split with the explosive "Blowback Mountain," a track that hearkens back to the earliest and most beautiful days of American metalcore where bands like Coalesce, Starkweather, and Disembodied cleaned clocks on a nightly basis. The final track on the this little, four-song gem may very well be the best one. Barren Womb's "Hazmat Suit" will have the stodgiest, old scenesters up and in the pit.  It's got the same type of catchy hook that a band like Refused would sling out, only covered in multiple layers of crusty punk goodness, finally finishing off in somewhat ambient waves of hypnotic clamoring. It's the perfect ending to an EP that will warrant multiple listens in a very short span of time. Full colour sleeve with digital download coupon. Black vinyl limited to 200 copies and clear with black smoke limited to 100 copies.
http://riotousoutburst.bandcamp.com/alb … lit-7-inch

NO FORM "s/t" MLP 14€
(Reagent Records/Muscle Horse Records)
A boundary-pushing record from the North of England. Bathing in the murk, devoid of light, it invokes a dark atmosphere that has little to do with any gothic plod or metal pose. This is punk, as antagonistic and cleansing as it ever can be. No Form's notorious live power is finally captured on this, their first record, with four shorter pulsating numbers on Side A and one long jam on Side B that approaches the outer limits. Shrill, disconcerting guitar leads and tormented vocals slither over an affirmative pummel that exists at the meeting point between outlier hardcore punk - Siege/United Mutation/GISM - and post-punk/proto-industrial at its most confrontational - SPK/Cabaret Voltaire/Good Missionaries. Deceptively catchy thrashing coexists with sinister, siren-call sax that evokes Throbbing Gristle. This is music for the perennially despondent. Music for the subconscious, not the fashion conscious. This is music that could have been the soundtrack to the Blood Garden in JG Ballard's 'High Rise'. This is music as life ritual, to be listened to by all or none. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. Limited edition of 500 copies.

STICK MEN WITH RAY GUNS "Grave City" LP 18€
(End of an Ear)
Stick Men With Ray Guns and Texas punk rock icon Bobby Soxx existed for most of the 1980's and burned a legacy of outrageous live performance and pain inducing sonic chaos that knows no peer in modern music. Appearing on a handful of compilations, they never released an album while they existed as a band but finally, the way god never intended, it is here. Expertly remastered and pressed on black 150 gram vinyl, this album includes every single studio track along with two live tracks, plus a bonus track and comes with a download card and insert.

PÄIVITYS 29.12.2015

VINYYLIT:

THE RUTABEGA "Shiny Destination" 7"
(Triple Eye Industries)
Sometimes two people is all that is necessary for music making. Such is the case with The Rutabega, the self described “Carp Rock power duo” hailing from the rather unlikely locale of South Bend, Indiana. Founded in 2002 by singer and guitarist Joshua Wayne Hensley, The Rutabega expanded their sound and membership with the addition of Garth Mason in 2011. Their 2013 full length "Brother the Lights Don't Work" drew on the band's knack for emotive and expansive songwriting, bringing to mind a two-piece Neil Young & Crazy Horse playing Beatles songs. With its playfully chaotic feel, rough-around-the-edges vocal, and bouncy, toe-tapping surf rock construction, the title track reminds me of something that might have come from The Unicorns, a notion only reinforced by quirky lyrical content. Energetic and catchy, it's a breezy piece that's nearly impossible to dislike, joined by a b-side in "Ladder" that, with its laid back tempo and more emotional punch, resembles an '80s soft rock ballad. White vinyl in hand screen-printed sleeve with digital download coupon. Limited edition of 300 copies.
http://theseknottylines.bandcamp.com/al … tination-7

SOUP MOAT "Enjoy Your Hobbies" 7"
(Triple Eye Industries)
In love with the fuzz, Soup Moat are a frighteningly lo-fi cross between Neurosis and Mudhoney, delving deep into the frantic territory of psychosis via grungy, heavily distorted guitars, atypical timings and demonic vocals. Soup Moat are an awesomely unhinged band who clearly have no care for the accepted niceties of making music. With minimal concession to tunes (and/or tuning) the band experiment with a variety of genres, loosely tethering themselves to punk but owing more to the avant-garde antics of Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and the like. It's an EP that will be loved by few, but those few will treasure it for its wonderful idiosyncrasies as the music industry continues to airbrush all the human elements of record making out of their artists. Vinyl pressed on random color, a mixed batch of "dark blue-grey w/grey swirl" and" light grey w/blue swirl". There are fewer light grey ones, but no official count. Your purchase is the luck of the draw. Hand screen-printed cover. Includes digital download card. Limited edition of 300 copies. Digital download contains bonus Unwound cover, "Envelope."

THEM TEETH "The Knuckledragger" 7"
(Triple Eye Industries)
There is nothing like a good sonic brawl to grab attention and get the blood rushing feverishly through the body, and that is exactly what you get with "The Knuckledragger" EP from US noise punks Them Teeth. The three track assault is an uncompromising and galvanic incitement for ears and emotions. Ben Roeske of the far too short-lived Rough Rope continues violating innocent ears with Them Teeth. Clear with white and blue smokey swirl vinyl in hand screen-printed cover includes digital download card. Limited edition of 300 copies.

CD:

RAMLEH "Circular Time" 2CD 12€
(Crucial Blast)
[i]It's been nearly twenty years since we last had a full-length album from Ramleh operating in "rock" mode, but the sprawling new double album "Circular Time" sees these British noise rock legends returning with their most intense work since re-emerging in recent years. One of the key bands to emerge from the British post-industrial underground of the early 1980s alongside their Broken Flag label-mates Skullflower, Ramleh continually shifted between the extreme, confrontational power electronics of their early material and their later forays into searing, lysergic noise rock, right up until the band went on an extended hiatus in the late 1990s. The group would return later the following decade with a number of reissues and new releases, but up until now, almost all of the new material from the re-activated Ramleh leaned more towards their power electronics and harsh noise tendencies. But with this massive new album, these distortion masters (now comprised of founding member Gary Mundy, longtime member Anthony Di Franco, and new drummer Martyn Watts) have returned with nearly two hours of speaker-shredding, void-gazing psychedelia, pushing the pummeling, Hawkwindian meltdowns heard on classic 90's-era albums like 'Be Careful What You Wish For' and 'Shooters Hill' into realms of total obliteration.
Still forged from a simple but savage combination of pummeling mogodon drumming, monstrously overloaded synthesizers and elliptical, sludge-encrusted bass riffs that anchor the squalls of brutal, electrified guitar noise that crash across these thirteen tracks, Ramleh's sound remains hypnotically crushing. From the almost pastoral strum of opener "Re-entry" that ends up exploding into a frenzy of howling feedback and motorik propulsion, the galloping power and delay-drenched delirium of "Incubator", to the lurching post-punk of "The Tower", the ferocious, volcanic ragas of "Renaissance Warfare", and the lumbering, almost Sabbathian bass-thud and longform guitar exploration that winds through songs like "The March" and "American Womanhood", Ramleh excavate some of their most monstrous riffs and amplifier meltdowns to date. Heavy, zoned-out drone-rock grooves are unleashed amid gales of sky-scorching guitar noise, with epic psych-shred workouts stretched out across storms of nebular effects. Eerie choral ambience rises above over-modulated bass-lines and tumultuous drumming. Distant vocals howl beneath sheets of shimmering guitar, and streaks of twisted, mutant dub materialize within some of the album's catchier moments. Cacophonies of blissed-out guitar squall and violent drumming come tumbling out of the speakers in a rush of freeform psychnoise, and vast, rumbling dronescapes unfurl in the abyss, enfolding majestic but brutally distorted melodies in waves of shadowy low-frequency synth. It's dark, often brutal music, but also shot through with moments of sweeping, apocalyptic beauty, building to the powerful back-to-back finale of "Weird Tyranny" and "Never Returner" that are as utterly blasted and majestic as anything we've heard from Ramleh in the band's thirty-some year existence.

BAXTER STOCKMAN / HARPON Split 7"
(Poutrage Records)
The best looking Finnish noise rock trio Baxter Stockman teamed up with the French Harpon for a split release as well as a French tour prior to the release. One track by each band and both bands mean business. Black vinyl in special hand made sleeve with insert. Limited edition of 300 copies.
http://poutragerecords.bandcamp.com/alb … on-split-7

HIKING "Trenches b/w Bikini Atol" 7"
(X-Mist Records)
First release by this new band from Los Angeles with 2 exclusive songs recorded at Big Fish Studios, San Diego. Features ex- and current members of the Bad Dudes, Bipolar Bear aka Turrks, and Silver Daggers. Maybe they sound something like these, or maybe not… Our initial thought was that it sounds like "Steel Pole Bath Tub meets Les Savy Fav". Someone else said it’s like "a Les Savy Fav song interpreted by Karp". And another one claimed it's reminiscent of Superconductor (as on "Hit Songs for Girls"). More RIYL? The Fall, Fugazi, Chinese Stars… And if you're unfamiliar with any of these references, then you may think as well of something like being stuck in between Deerhoof and Deerhunter. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Limited edition of 500 copies.

KILSLUG / DRUNK IN HELL Split 7"
(At War with False Noise/Lupus)
Not sure when this split 7" was announced the first time, but it has definitely been a-long-time-coming. If you are reading this, you know who Kilslug are. Based in Boston. Active for the most part of the 80s. Eventually broke up and re-activated around 2007. Larry Lifeless. Filthy dirge noise punk rock. You know this shit and you know you need everything they've done in your collection. Drunk in Hell from the U.K. started around the same time as Kilslug reanimated and won't get caught hiding their Kilslug influences either. Pair those with a few tricks from the Brainbombs and we're good to go. Definitely one of the European noise rock bands to keep an eye on these days. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve.

ÅRABROT "For Lack of Discipline You Will Die" 7"
(Sheep Chase Records)
Norwegian Grammy winners, noise rock masters Årabrot present a new 7", "For Lack of Discipline You Will Die". On the A-side track "Song of Calumny" we find Årabrot main man Kjetil Nernes even further down in the black hole we call humanity. The song is a bitter and sarcastic thunderous speech about the uncertainty that makes man evil. This groovy monster hit is also featuring noise maestro Lasse Marhaug. "Song of Calumny" was recorded in the same sessions as the upcoming album "The Gospel", partly in Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studio, Chicago, and finished in Nernes' and Karin Park's home – an old church in Dalarna, Sweden, where they also recorded the B-side tracks. The B-side includes a narrated version of previously released "The Isis Pool" featuring spoken word by Nernes and a layer of drones and moods by Karin Park, who produced the track. (Park is also a regular in the present Årabrot line-up.) The record concludes with an exclusive cover of "Duh, The Big City" by Hammerhead, here named "DUH!" The artwork is, as always, provided by Johannes Høie. This time it is an alternation of the coat of arms to the city of Haugesund, the origin of Årabrot. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with sticker.

REGLER "Regel #4 (HNW)" CD
(At War with False Noise)
Regler is a project from Mattin (known mostly for collaborations with Junko, Phillip Best, Tony Conrad and others) and Anders Bryngelsson of Brainbombs. This project aims to re-create musical sub-genres using only traditional "rock" instruments; in this case, harsh noise wall. Regler on this album most definitely play rock music, but it's half an hour of absolutely blistering, all-out, in-the-red heavy metal. It's exhausting and invigorating and totally unlike anything else, and is the closest thing in years to the spirit of the genius avant-rock of Les Rallizes Denudes without actually sounding anything like them. Most certainly one for those interested in hearing the limits of rock music and where it can go. Recommended! 500 copies in beautiful 6-panel matte sleeve.

SOUPCANS "Good Feelings" LP 16€
(Telephone Explosion)
Recorded in the back of a bicycle repair shop by renowned producer Don Pyle, "Good Feelings" takes the band's live brutality and adds a chainsaw sheen of distorted keyboard, otherworldly guitar overdubs and background shrieks straight out of an exorcism. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Second pressing.

SOUPCANS "Parasite Brain" 7"
(Telephone Explosion)
Enter the Soupcans into a world of dystopian chaos, one of grinding distortions and impenetrable walls of sound. Manic screams guide you through dim-lit alleyways vaguely remembered. Living here, it sometimes calms down into a groove, but more days than not it's the unceasing noise of your state oppressor, eating away at your once-sane consciousness. It's hard to tell if it's the cocktail your guy down the street cooked up for you or if that's just the way it has become. Thoughts are fleeting, and you begin to wonder if anyone could ever help. Until you re-emerge, standing in the crowd of your local punk bar, listening to the Soupcans blow your mind. Thankfully it's not the brain-oozing hell you thought it would be, just really good punk. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve with digital download coupon. Limited edition of 500 copies.

VINYYLIT:

COLD CIRCUITS "s/t" 7"
(Erste Theke Tonträger/Satellite Visions)
Whatever these Bay Area guys secretly mix in their drinks, it seems to bring out an endless flow of brilliant and catchy, yet distinctive songs. There are similarities to Synthetic ID (who share the same rhythm section as Cold Circuits), even though this band is less focused on the vibe and more on driving the listener. Lazy guitar lines weave in and out of logic, while bass and drums keep the whole thing forward with an inevitably urgency. It sounds excitingly familiar and so new in skills and maturity, that you just can't listen to anything similar elsewhere. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve. US pressing limited to 250 copies.
http://coldcircuits.bandcamp.com/album/s-t-ep

COLD CIRCUITS "Out of Hat Yai" LP 15€
(Erste Theke Tonträger/Warming the Board)
The Bay Area is one of the most interesting places for punk these days - one of the most outstanding bands from there are the Cold Circuits! Shattered guitar sound, mutated post punk basslines creating a danceable despair with bratty darkwave vocals, this is so punk! The icy, anxiety-ridden post punk is replaced by salivating droning punk. Less twitching, more pogoing, but still ravaged by the mounting dissolution and paranoia. A fucking great rhythm section rounds this whole thing down. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve. Limited edition of 200 copies.
http://coldcircuits.bandcamp.com/album/12

MANSION "Early Life" LP 16€
(Degenerate Zine)
Don't mistake this band for the Finnish Mansion and don't mistake the label for the Degenerate zine published some years back by Kaos Kontrol and Freak Animal Records!  The Oakland, California band Mansion plays highly rhythmic, ringing, eerie, pitch-black, rough and telegraphed noisiness. What it does, with drums and two guitars and the singer Candace Lazarou enunciating sternly and carefully, feels like sturdy, skeptical commentary about song-making, something we can always use as a corrective. Think experimental music channeled through garage rock, no wave and post-punk. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with lyrics insert.
http://mmansionn.bandcamp.com/album/early-life

SOKEA PISTE "Ajatus karkaa" MLP 12€
(Karkia Mistika/Trujaca Fala/Mouse)
Sokea Piste may be a newcomer in the Finnish punk/noise rock/underground/whatever scene, but it's members are no greenhorns when it comes to creating noisy, crusty and uncompromising soundscapes. As the cover art already reveals, this 20 minutes of paranoid desolace delves into the darker sides of the human mind. It's not too often you stumble across an album this concentrated on the inside of the mind. Surely many punks have been shouting out their anger to the world for many years, but "Ajatus karkaa" wants to find out the problems and the solutions from the inside. Naturally those problems are caused by the outside world, which – according to the manic shouting of Heikki – is going towards a dead end. It's a world in a peculiarly grotesque state, where both the economy and the breadlines are growing. No wonder your mind starts to tear itself apart. Album contains lyrics translated to english for easier follow up. "Ajatus karkaa" is an excellent follow up to the chaotic paranoia of the "Oire" 7” EP, released in 2011 by Peterwalkee Records. Albeit being most certainly related to more or less punkish roots, the bizarre charm in the band's performance is it's mesmerizing originality. You can't really pogo to this along with the hardcore punks, yet the complexity of Seppo's bass and Jukka's drum lines are still far away from the jazzyness of acts like NoMeansNo. Maybe if The Jesus Lizard would've tuned their guitars like Thurston Moore and added some cocktails of mental medicine, the cool melancholia of the Finnish personality and... Motörhead? Hard to tell, go find out for yourself. You may remember some of its members from the hc-punk collective Kyklooppien Sukupuutto or the no wave of Finnish folk music behemoth Kuollut Muisto. And just like these names, also Sokea Piste leaves no "blind spots" (as their name says) in their debut album, when it let's their thoughts run away (as the album title says) in the dark abyss of loud guitar walls by Heikki and Juhana and sometimes even gothic or industrial tones. Chilly, cruel, chaotic, crusty. But oh so cathartic! This is the 2nd pressing on black vinyl and different colour artwork.
http://sokeapiste.bandcamp.com/album/ajatus-karkaa

SOKEA PISTE "Välikäsi" LP 12€
(Karkia Mistika/Tuska ja Ahdistus)
Sokea Piste have been at it since 2008 and have previously released one 7" and one 12", which were favorably received in the punk scene and beyond. Comparisons to a wide variety of bands on the noisier and gloomier side of punk have been thrown around to describe their sound, though as per usual all this is better taken with a grain of salt. With their new album "Välikäsi" they have dropped the pace a notch or two while retaining their energy and intensity levels. The lyrics remain depressingly accurate snapshots of a sick world we live in, where free market capitalism reigns supreme at the cost of immense human suffering, mass marketed goods and ideals, loss of individuality and brutal competition. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with black/white printed inner sleeve.

ELEPHANT RIFLE "Ivory" LP 16€
(Humaniterrorist/Gentlemen Friends)
Turn it up! Turn it up! "Bone Voyage", Elephant Rifle's entry in noise punk single of the year, explodes like so many nail-tinged grenades in every direction, the guitar and drums barbed-wired together in rapid-fire syncopation before the former breaks into a screeching hellfire roar. Then, the singer starts to let loose, some bark reminiscent of early 80s hardcore, maybe, and, for a second, you could swear he's harmonizing … with the Fucking. Distorted. Electric. Guitar. This band is not messing around, folks. On "Ivory", the Reno, NV band's latest offering, the hits and bruises keep mounting from there. "Red Shirts" seems like an exercise in tom rolls and muddy vocals, until the cacophony drops a dime halfway through the proceedings and then suddenly stops on the damn thing again in blitzkrieg, migraine-inducing fashion. "Dogs Wolves Wolverines" mines the most raw, original and authentic punk in years. "Frank Black" is the blues at its angriest and most volatile. The thing is not without ambition, if that hasn't become clear by now. "Horses", which closes the 10-track outing after the noisy "Skeleton Key", starts with a post-rockish interlude, which seems eerie and utterly out-of-place. But it's effective. The band kicks it to the curb to build on the structure and melody with a touch more distortion and a skittering drum line that suits them far better. By the two-minute mark, these guys' power-chords have the epic sway of, say, Cobain on "Bleach" or Buzzo on "Houdini", thundering but melodic. It's a sound they flirt with throughout – early Seattle sludge mixed with equal parts Black Flag, Helmet and The Jesus Lizard. Then, speaking of that, there's "Rasputin". This is going to be a love or hate moment for most of you. The song is vintage, "Shot"-era Jesus Lizard, so much so that those of you who hate it will say it borders on parody. These guys are clearly 2015's answer to Scratch Acid and the Austin and Chicago pig-fuck and noise punk scenes of the mid-80's, and they respect their forebears. The fact that the song's muted-creeping-guitar verses crib from Denison or the drum patterns suggest Mac in his heyday does not take anything away from the fact that the song goddamn rocks. White vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert and digital download coupon.

ELEPHANT RIFLE / ALPHABET CULT Split 7"
(Elephant Rifle/Alphabet Cult)
Two steamrolling, truck-driving growlers from Reno rock slayers, Elephant Rifle offers up "Clones and Clones" and Alphabet Cult plays "Magnatron", each band pummels away on this split 7". Noisy as all get out, and shows Reno is still home to a seedy underbelly of lurching riffs and lots of guttural anxiety. Purple vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert. Due to a pressing plant boondoggle, the labels on the record are fixed to the wrong sides, so the Elephant Rifle song is on the Alphabet Cult side and vice-versa.

MR. EPP AND THE CALCULATIONS "Of Course I'm Happy. Why?" 7" (PRE-ORDER) 7€/7,50€
(Full Contact Records)
By 1982, the loud, fast rules of hardcore had calcified into loud, fast clichés. The era's generic thrash bands were growing as predictable as anything in the commercial mainstream and what once felt raw and exciting was now an artistic cul-de-sac. But the humus of that creative stagnation nourished stranger-smelling flowers at the outer edges of the garden: Groups like Flipper, the Church Police, No Trend, and Mission for Christ dealt in slow, grinding dirges peppered with surreal, smart-assed words that mocked the conformity of both the so-called punk scene and society at large. They infuriated the kids who reveled in preening, slamming, and shouting empty political slogans but they immediately hooked the brainier and freakier factions within the audience. Named for a high-school math teacher, Mr. Epp and the Calculations were the Seattle area's prime practitioners of sarcastic, zonked, and oddly poignant slop. Featuring vocalist and occasional guitarist Jo Smitty alongside guitarist and occasional vocalist Mark Arm, they tickled the American underground with "Mohawk Man," a deadpan swipe at an increasingly vapid subculture set to shivers of post-no wave feedback and a cavernous, tom-heavy beat. The quartet's lone seven-inch EP, "Of Course I'm Happy. Why?", paired this delightfully blasé satire with four apoplectic rants, most notably the rabid "Wild Youth on Money." Alas, the resulting hubbub was pretty short-lived. Mr. Epp fell apart in early 1984 and has remained a well-kept local secret despite the accomplishments of its alumni: Arm and late-period guitarist Steve Turner went on to something approximating fame with Green River, the Thrown Ups, and Mudhoney; Smitty ran the Box Dog label and oversaw various Northwestern noise projects; bassist Todd Why? became the singer in Atomic 61; and drummer Darren Mor-X joined Steel Pole Bath Tub. After commanding stupid collectors' prices for decades, Mr. Epp's EP is finally available again courtesy of Full Contact, the vinyl imprint of Finland's Ektro Records with an ear for regional obscurities. We strongly encourage you to grab this reissue, crack open a beer or 10, and laugh at your lame, sanctimonious peers while pondering the immortal question posed by the lyrics to "Red Brigade": "But wherein lies the solution/ In free thought or bogus revolution?" The answer, my friend, is as obvious as you are. Black (limited to 350 copies) or splatter (limited to 150 copies) vinyl in black/white sleeve with lyrics insert. NOTE! This item begins shipping on February 26th, 2016.

VINYYLIT:

BIRTH "s/t" LP 15€
(Dead Beat Records)
Devastatingly punishing debut here from Chicago dirtbags Birth (with ex-members of Brain Handle)! Bathed in the same filth as Brainbombs, Drunks With Guns, Flipper and Big Black; Birth take cro-magnon riffs and shred 'em to bits as the sky collapses around them and they're buried in a pile of smoldering barbed wire. Think heavy, sludgey as fuck, proto-punk that sounds like the Electric Eels covering the Stooges using Sabbath's gear if it were stolen from a scrap yard and made out of knives. Brutally harsh landscapes where beating the shit out of your instruments is therapy and masochism is fun. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve.

CELLOS "Bomb Shelter" LP 15€
(Dead Beat Records)
Every once in a while a band will come out of nowhere and just flat out knock you on your ass. Cellos are definitely one of those bands. Stewing in the same sludgey, riff infected cesspool as mid to late 90's heavy hitters like Karp, Unwound, Godheadsilo and Unsane; this Windsor, Ontario three-piece write some of the most punishingly awesome tunes you'll ever hear. This is harsh, destructive music where warm, fuzzy riffs are king and loud, noisy feedback is lauded as they melt, slice, and demolish each song into acute ear fucking precision. Nods to the Melvins and Black Sabbath are pretty much essential as foundational purveyors in the genre. And Cellos fit right in with the above mentioned artists as a band that's pushing the boundaries of extremely heavy music, one crudely bashed low-end hit at a time. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve. Please note: Sleeves arrived from the label with some corner damage, so if you're anal about that, you've been warned!

FRAU "s/t" LP 15€
(Dead Beat Records)
London ladies Frau (featuring ex-Good Throb member) stay ahead of the trend and revisit late 70's/early 80's post punk with impeccable results. On Frau's debut vinyl offering they spew molten bass-centric punk rock where jagged, lacerating guitars splash across each other in succinct, volatile harmony. Pure burly, shambolic punk rock that brings to mind early DIY post punk creativists like Liliput, Kleenex, and The Raincoats played at near HC velocity. A big part of Frau's inventive, disheveled charm is their warped, out of place, tempo changes and low brow recording experimentation that are as much a part of their "sound" as the wall of scuzz feedback that delightfully, envelops each song. They create broodingly, unbalanced soundscapes of raw, hostile music that's both biting, powerful and dripping with character spat from their own witty, feminist tongue. Fans of Kleenex, Bikini Kill, Flipper, Gang of Four and Huggy Bear will be all over this. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert.

PINPRICK PUNISHMENT "Blood Bag" LP 15€
(Dead Beat Records)
Tokyo's Pinprick Punishment have hardly hit a miss this far. Their first two 7"s are pulsating collages of choppy ear piercing noise punk, and they build on those singles here. Pinprick Punishment are like a beautiful parasitic mutation of early SST heavy hitters (Black Flag and Saccharine Trust) and the Sam McPheeters lineage of HC: specifically Wrangler Brutes, Men's Recovery Project and Born Against. A caustic, chaotic beast that probably shouldn't work; but really does. The lyrics are bitter, yet clever. The guitars are schizophrenic and totally unpredictable. And the bass / drum interplay seem to be mere shadowy cornerstones to the cacophonous guitar and vocal anchor that harness each track. "Blood Bag" is a gleefully sadistic blitzkrieg that rages through perfectly executed solos, burly downhill riffing and an overall cohesiveness that you don't find in too many bands today. Black vinyl in full colour sleeve with insert.

TRACTOR SEX FATALITY "Peel and Eat" CD
(Dead Beat Records)
The debut full-length blaster from this Seattle scuzzy noise punk combo comprised of current and former members of Sinister Six, Primate 5, Gloryholes, Samsonknight, New Fangs, Blow Up, and Gimmicks. Eleven scorching tracks of raucous, head-on-collision rock, including a frantic cover of Scratch Acid's "Cannibal."
