The scrutinising of a sea of faces for potential, all while maintaining a cool elegance. The money. The games and then the guys who specialise in exploiting that particular ecology - some real experts.
"Vapour Trails" is a song I wrote in 1978, remade and remodelled by Benge and a Jurassic Park mix - Roxy and Beatles gene-spliced via ELO mosquito digestive tract. Plus there's "Watching a Building on Fire" - Co-composed with Mira from Ladytron which made Benge and I very proud boys. Other new songs include "The Running Man", "Summerland" and "The Good Shadow".

New Ultravox album nearing completion!

We are delighted to announce that following Ultravox's return to the live arena in 2009/10 with their successful Return to Eden tour, that they have recently signed a deal with Universal Records. A natural progression from the reformation that was a celebration of their 30th anniversary, the band have been working on new material for an album since Autumn 2010, which is now nearing completion.

"We've had such a great time performing our old songs over the last two years that we just didn't want it to end! There's an immense satisfaction in looking across the stage and seeing those familiar faces playing the songs that we wrote as a unit. When we sat down to attempt to write some new songs we found that the ideas just kept coming and so a new album became not just inevitable, but something we really wanted to do together. Once again the whole has proved to be greater than the sum of the parts."

Forthcoming live EP

Following on from the news about new material, comes more information about the forthcoming EP release, Moments from Eden. Due to be released by Eden Recording Ltd on February 21st, the 4 track CD is also being released as a Limited Edition 10" vinyl disc and features New Europeans, White China, Love's Great Adventure and Herr X - a special version of Mr X, with Warren Cann vocalising in German.

Ultravoxs super deluxe limited edition live EP Moments From Eden is ultimately a collectors item made for the bands devoted fanbase as a memorandum of their most recent reunion 2010 European tour. The product itself is a combined 10 vinyl/CD 4-track EP which includes new live recordings of the classic Ultravox tracks "New Europeans", "Herr X", "White China"and "Loves Great Adventure".
Also included is marquis artwork, a booklet printed on specialised paper as well as an embossed gatefold sleeve.

I am simply attempting to find a way of describing what is happening, so it can be seen better, so I can begin to understand such media processes, and their effects on us, more clearly. All this merged with the interest in Satie, during the making of a set of recordings of simple piano music, recorded in my front room. At first, I wanted all the sounds of the mechanism of the piano and the sounds from outside the windows to be audible. During playback, it was fascinating to hear sounds I hadnt noticed at the time breathing, movement, even voices through the wall, from the neighbours house.
It was all strongly reminiscent of a séance, especially since these were often conducted in front rooms or parlours. (In Britain, this is the term for a room kept as the best room for receiving visitors, also where the piano would be kept). So I began combining these piano pieces with other recordings made in various environments, including a machine left recording at night in empty rooms. Some of the sounds and the stereo movements captured in this way are really startling.
I also recorded white noise from an untuned crystal radio and slowed small sections of it, to obtain apparent words and phrases. Its a method of examining the grain of sound to find things buried inside it. I guess the unconscious, plus our instinctive desire to connect and make patterns, both come strongly into play here. Both of these seem well worth encouraging, since they equally apply to the way we comprehend music. The recordings will be released later this year, and will be titled Electricity and Ghosts.
